So I'm in a calculus 1 class and am doing an implicit differentiation problem. [img]http://oi47.tinypic.com/rwqa9w.jpg[/img] As the picture says, i was supposed to combine like terms. But why did that 5x turn into 5x+1? I don't understand this at all. If someone would be kind enough to give me a quick explanation, I would really appreciate it. Because you can write it like 5x(dy/dx) + (1)dy/dx you're distributing out the dy/dx
