So, I've been interested in the release of this phone, and wanted to know what everyone's opinion was of it.

It sounds like a nice development, but I have no idea how it runs or anything yet, as it was just released, there aren't any proper up-to-date reviews. I was thinking of buying it soon, but I want to try hold off until some real reviews arrive. Has anyone had experience with Firefox OS in general?
that thing looks terrible. were they going for a jaffa cake styled phone?

I dunno, I quite like orange. I also like jaffa cakes.

The Lenovo Ideapad Yoga is orange too so you might like that as well
While I'm all for diversity, its unlikely that people will adopt new mobile OSes because they'll have to adapt to the new ecosystem.
It took years for Android to really take off, and still there are many iOS exlusive applications, even with one of the world's biggest companies behind it. Windows RT and Windows Phone are still struggling to amass the amount of apps that Android and iOS have, and other OSes such as WebOS flat-out failed.
It just doesn't seem likely to me that Firefox OS will take off.
Yeah I agree, I can't say I have faith in this phone taking off. But hey, you never know.
Imo, it doesn't really matter if the OS 'takes off' like that, as it's all HTML5 based. I think that in theory, any web application should run on it, as well as most phones that support HTML5. I mean, sure there will be less Firefox specific applications, but the phone hasn't stepped away from anything, but rather pushed forward for a more convenient application system, after all, there isn't much reason for a lot of applications to have to be phone specific; the main reason right now is for hardware integration, but it seems that this phone allows HTML to use its camera etc.
I'm more interested in what it's like to use, as I can't see myself interested in many apps, as I'd be generally more interested in just browsing the internet.
I'm in a need of a new phone. And this actually looks like something I could use as I mostly just use my smartphone for normal phone stuff, and then internet things like Twitter and Facebook.
Plus it's super cheap!

And I find the design hilarious in a good way :v:
Does it have FM radio?
I dunno, I quite like orange. I also like jaffa cakes.
well that's a given, i don't know anyone that doesn't. myself included
i might have to check out B2G again some day, I used it a while ago in the firefox emulator and it wasn't anything special.
Does it have FM radio?
"It's based on a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM7225A chip, which includes a single 1GHz Cortex A5 processor core and an Adreno 200 GPU. It comes with 256MB of RAM and 512MB of internal storage, expandable via microSD cards. It has a 3.5-inch multitouch screen with 480-by-320 pixel resolution. It includes a 3.15MP rear-facing camera, an accelerometer, and an ambient light sensor, and it can pull in 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, and FM radio. And that's about it."

I've been using Firefox OS devices for a while now, and if you're planning on buying this, don't expect an Android or iOS level of maturity.
Dynamic search is by far my favourite feature from any OS though.

May I ask what you mean by 'maturity'? Do you mean like, feature-wise, performance-wise, mechanics-wise, apps-wise.. Or all? n.n! Just out of curiosity, why did you choose to use them for a while over Android or IOS?

Performance is much better than what you will see with android at this price, by far. What I mean is that whilst all the features you'd expect from a smartphone are there, they're still a bit basic. (eg. the Clock app only displays the time and sets alarms whereas on Android you get stopwatch and a world clock)
With apps, there's a few thousand in the Firefox Marketplace already, and since it's so easy to convert an existing mobile site into an app (Literally just two manifest files) that number will go up. The most requested app iirc is WhatsApp and afaik that is coming "soon".
Just out of curiosity, why did you choose to use them for a while over Android or IOS?
I didn't. I'm a volunteer for Mozilla so I got my geeksphone free from them. My primary phone is a Nexus 4. The geeksphone is constantly being flashed with nightlies so I wouldn't rely on it as a primary device.
If my cellular service provider allowed it, I might have replaced my current phone with this one by now. Short and sweet like a dumbphone yet capable like a smartphone in a sense.
Right now the mobile industry is a vicious Apple v Google industry, and people like Microsoft, Nokia's own OS's, WebOS, Firefox OS, Blackberry and etc are getting flogged.
Though there are still iOS exclusive applications, you'd be dumb right now to continue that, developers see Android as also a good platform to work with and its gradually getting better every year whilst Apple stays strong.
I see Firefox OS will be a huge flop, don't get it.
You're all talking about the Firefox OS phones being marketed for the same audience that iOS and Android devices are.
With the size of the screen and the obvious lack of apps being a brand new OS, I can't help but think that Firefox are reaching out to the consumer who doesn't want hundreds of apps or to check Facebook every five minutes but does want an easy to use mobile device with internet connectivity if they need it which doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I think that's a very important - and quite frankly ignored - demographic at the moment. Android isn't the easiest of operating systems to navigate if you've never used a smartphone before (members of the older generation or those not keen on getting the best technology at current. Yes, there are plenty of people still like that - it's hard to believe). iOS is easy to use and navigate and is nice and straightforward - like all Apple devices - but the price tag is ridiculous on all their products (and nobody can argue that - the quality of the unit may be good but the price tag is a considerable barrier for a lot of people who know that fact and respect it).
Personally I wouldn't have one - I'm not part of that demographic. Neither are the majority of Facepunchers. But that's irrelevant - because I think Firefox isn't trying to appeal to our demographic. Everything on the phone points away from our interests - the colour, the shape, the specifications and the OS. So it makes sense that it's not aimed at us to me.
So for a smartphone running an easy to use, simple OS for £60 is going to appeal to a lot of people who don't have £300+ to spend on a refurbished iPhone or who don't have the time or patience to learn how to successfully get the most out of an Android device.
If the OS, colour and shape appeal to me, does that make me within the demographic?
If the OS, colour and shape appeal to me, does that make me within the demographic?
no, that just means you like the device

Which is exactly why it has to take off, this "ecosystem" bullshit is geting a bit old.
It sold out currently, but here's the status for it coming back up:

Still trying to decide. I almost want to see what the next device they release will be, because I have a feeling this is going to be a device I'd regret getting due to the next device being that much better, like when I rushed to get an android tablet at version 1.6, and now there's tablets for even cheaper running 4.2 etc..

but it's never going away
They're taking their time to stock back up - instead, they're auctioning off single phones.. The fuck?
Back in stock, bought one Friday.
