• How big of a performance increase would these be?

Sorry for a little hang title, but didn't want it to be super long. I have an AMD Athlon II x4 620 at stock 2.6GHz. I want to update to the AMD Phenom II x4 965 black edition at 3.4GHz. Would there be a big improvement in programs, games, and just overall faster loading? I wouldn't want to spend almost $200 for a little improvement. Other Specs: 650W PSU ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO mobo 4GB DDR3 1600MHz ripjaw series XFX 4890 850MHz 1GB (shipping now) 30GB ocz vertex series SSD - for soon to be boot drive 250GB internal HDD 7200 rpm, western digital I believe
If you really don't want to spend much money, try getting an aftermarket cooler and overclock the AthlonII to ~3.0GHz. Also, yes it would be a noticeable improvement in some games. If you are upgrading, however, get the PhenomII 955 instead.
I'm willing to spend some money. Why the 955? And would I also notice improvement in load times for programs and games?
I'm willing to spend some money. Why the 955? And would I also notice improvement in load times for programs and games?
955 is 200 mhz/0.2Ghz slower than the 965. So if you want to spend $20 to get 2 more frames per second, that is fine with me. Except you can, again, overclock it yourself to match the 965.
