Oh hey, I did a review of this game.
Been waiting for this on sale, I heard there were some issues with it but for $20 I'm down for a slightly flawed action RPG with some fairly creative monster designs
This is made by Spiders Studios, the same developers who made Mars: War Logs and Of Orcs And Men. Their games aren't bad, they're just not very good. They tend to be overly ambitious.
Ambitious, and in good intentions, but really flawed execution.
these guys have good ideas but neither the budget nor the manpower to fully realize any of them
Yep, when playing through it I would like to see a bigger studio to make it. The idea behind it was neat.
Playing this game feels like eating that dish from one of your friends who is just an average cook. Sure you can eat and digest it and it fills your stomach, but it is not great. If he had more experience with spices he surely could tickle some of the blandness away, I mean, he got the right meat. But he overcooked it which made it comparable to a sole of a shoe. But at least he didn't serve it with Ketchup, right? The salad was okay, but he didn't make it by himself, so does it count? So the point is, why should I give my stomach something average, if I can have much better food that is around? And don't give me that "Why don't you cook it yourself if you know everything better!"

For example: if you're holding daggers you can backstep to avoid damage, but if you time it 'perfectly' you get a counter-attack which basically just means it's forcing you to attack after the dodge. The problem with this is if you have to do 2 dodges in quick succession it totally fucks you into taking the hit, and the game can be extremely unforgiving with damage even on the default difficulty. So honestly, why? Aside from that some of the voice acting is god awful and there's some pretty bad writing but overall it's decent

Also if you move while doing the counter attack you are less likely to be hit. Like move to the side when it does the counter attack.
