• Problems with 8600 GT

Okay, so I got an 8600 GT for $10 today, it seems to be working fine. The fans spin and windows recognized it and installed drivers. I only put it in my mobo/case to see if it works good and a place that's free from ESD. Whenever I plug in my monitor. Nothing appears on the screen. It seems to have a signal but it's all black. Windows recognizes the card and everything. What should I do? Also, my mobo has 2 PCI-E slots. I have a 5870 in the first, 8600 GT in the second. I tried putting the 8600 gt in the first and booting without the 5870. Nothing different.
So you mean you have the monitor connected to the 5870 and everything seems fine, then you connect it to the 8600 and nothing comes up on the screen? Are you trying to use the card to utilize additional monitors?

You're trying to use the card for PhysX or you're just want to see if it works? If you're just seeing if the card is functional have you tried putting only the 8600 in the machine?
Just to see if it's functional, and yes, I've tried putting only the 8600 in.
Alright, with just the 8600 in the machine what does the computer do when it boots? Does it beep at all? Hard disk light start flashing like it does when it loads the OS? Since it was $10 I assume it is a second hand card, was it confirmed working before you bought it?
well, i can tell you one big problem with the 8600GT...it was made.
well, i can tell you one big problem with the 8600GT...it was made.
Really helpful. When this happened with my 8600, it was my mobo.
Really helpful. When this happened with my 8600, it was my mobo.
the underlying, subconscious solution is to throw that shit in the garbage because it is an awful piece of crap (i have it, i hate it)

If you have ati drivers it may be messing with it? I have no idea what it could be. May be the reason it was $10
i think ati and/or nvidia made drivers so that if one is currently installed on your pc, you cant use a different kind of card
The "if you even have ATI you're not loyal enough to use PhysX" driver.
Even though nvidia marketed the ability to do this at one point. You can get around this with custom drivers anyway.
has the said system that the card does not work in have a VIA chipset? if so you have the same problem as my folding rig did when i got my 8800gs for £10 (bought it off a mate) it did not have any picture on the screen I ended up putting it in my other PC (780G) and flashing it with a custom bios that was meant for a 9800GT
