I walked into my local wireless provider store and asked how much the iPhone 4S would cost. The guy began chuckling and saying that Android phones are far more powerful than the newest Apple phone. I walked out sort of like "fuck android", but as I walked further from the store I began realising that the iPhone was falling behind and Android devices have become extremely powerful.
I've thought about it for a few days and realized the Samsung Galaxy S2 is better if not equivalent to the iPhone 4S. I thought to myself that if it works correctly with my audio deck in my car than I would be sold. I then went on to find out the S3 is being supposedly released in early 2012, and also realized my shitty carrier doesn't even carry the S2.
The reason I like the iPhone is because of it's solid, sexy design so the S2 looked appealing.
So, I need recommendations on an Android device. Looking for the latest and greatest in technology (obviously) and being an Android newbie I don't really know what's out there.
Looking for suggestions. If you suggest the Samsung Galaxy, should I wait for the S3, or get the S2?
Get the S2, it still beats the iPhone in just about ever way but battery life.
Even then it will be okay if you use it responsibly and arn't attatched to it all day.
Right now anything would be better than my 3GS battery life haha
I'm looking at the "S2 HD LTE" and I would buy that instantly if it was available :(
Doesn't LTE suck the life out of your battery even faster?
I would just grab a stock S2.
I'm currently waiting for the Nexus Prime.
If you really need a Smartphone, wich has long battery life, but is very limited then go for an iPhone.
If you like a super fast Phone, with endless customisation ability, but the battery lasts only for about a day, then go for a SGSII

He has an iPhone 3GS at the moment
Also you can wait and try and get the S3 but it might turn into the waiting game.
If you wait you will end up always waiting for the newest thing with how fast technology moves.
SGSII battery lasts easily 48 hours if you don't leave GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth on and don't leave programs running while you don't use them and also turn of automatic synchronization.

You basically said that the battery lasts a lot when you are not using the phone. No shit.
I'd encourage you go into a store and play around with both iOS and Android for a good 15 minutes and see which you like better.
If you really like iOS, go for the iPhone - and vice versa.
It's really hard to get a feel of an OS without spending a day with it. I played with my friends SGS2 and I didn't really like but I feel like if i owned it and had more time to go around the OS and get used to it i'll like it more. But right now, I'm loving my iphone 4.
Android is way more customizable. I have a galaxy s and the battery life may not be as good as the iPhone but it is allot more powerful and i can do allot more with it. Not to mention that because Android is taking over there is more and more support for them
I would really hold out till the SGSIII or ICS is released. Saying that the SGSII is more powerful spec-wise than the iPhone 4S is, even though I'd recommend the SGSII over it, a lie. The SGX543 in the iPhone 4S is more powerful than the SGSII's Mali-400. The CPU is still a good deal better in the SGSII, though.

You have to remember that there's no actual CPU benchmark in this test.
It's not droid, Droid is a name of a phone, while Android is the operating system
Android
Android
I made the same move, from iPhone 3GS to Samsung Galaxy SII, and I don't regret it one bit. The Galaxy SII is blazing fast and I feel incredibly free to do what I want on it. Get the Nexus Prime when it comes out.
You're asking on Facepunch, of course they're going to say android. Personally I'm moving from a DHD to iPhone 4S.

But this hardly comes as a surprise.
While I cannot really fault the core Android OS itself, it isn't a very standardized OS, due to the massive amounts of hardware it has support for, and the various size and shapes of devices it runs on, it doesn't run as well as it could. Plus the shit HTC, Samsung, and so forth stick in the default ROM for their phones tends to make it even worse.
It is by far, much better for power users than iOS can ever dream of being, and actually works as a tablet OS, which iOS insists it can do properly (and doesn't do well). But the hit and miss performance on certain devices is a bit of a let down, I don't have £300 to spend on a phone that can run it well, so I've been stuck with my old iPhone 3g for years now, and Apple have really fucked the performance of iOS up on that.

This is the H&S section, of course we are going to recomend the one which is technicaly superior over the latest iFad.

Ahh, come the fuck on and get over yourself. That's not a fucking argument "I'm x forum and I know their opinons, so we might as well disregard them". Why should your opinion be any more valid than any made someone here? I don't care whether you like iOS over Android or the other way around, disregarding anyone's opinion without even the most basic arguments is being an ass. Seriously, go work on that.

Saying iFad and such is really stupid as well, and you need to fucking stop. When you need to make fun of the name of a product, you're walking on thin ice. Make reasonable arguments instead, tends to work better than just time-travelling back to kindergarten.
Seriously, go work on that.
Okay, point taken.
I'll be upgrading to this as soon as possible; I had faith in android, it's a great but has ultimately let me down in many regards and I'm probably going to stick to Apple from here on out.
I upgraded from an iPhone 3G to a HTC Desire HD and I was impressed, the screen was great and a I didn't realise what I was missing out on with features like notifications, customisation and widgets it was much speedier as well. However over time little issues cropped up; randomly going sluggish, awful battery life, not responding, apps crashing, lots of apps look like vomit and the selection isn't as good on iOS. Android is a good OS, but it's a rough diamond, there's not much polish at all. I've rooted it now and installed a custom ROM (which took an assload of research and an entire day, I'd never expect anyone other than a very advanced user to even attempt that) and I have to admit it was really satisfying to see the result and have a fancy new interface and features; but most of those problems still persist, battery life being the worst offender which is just really bad (and believe me I've tried to fix it).
Now iOS 5 comes along and it has strengths of android and other mobile OS's but polished to a shine. Because of things like iMessage and iCloud, you become more at an advantage for owning more than one iOS device and for other people having iOS devices, and let me remind you there's more iphones out there an any one android device by miles. Find my Friend is also genius which I know I'll be using, but before you cry 'it copies google latitude' here's a reminder, fucking-no-one uses google latitude and don't try to argue to get people onto it - no one adapts which is why things like whatsapp don't become very popular; I know literally one person who uses it and she has to borrow her friend's iPhone to use it.
Then there's iCloud; android will never have anything so seamless and polished for a long time, sure you have dropbox but that's fidgety compared to doing fuck-all and having your photos, documents, game saves, apps, music, calendars and everything synced over to your tablets, ipods and computers automatically.
The apps are so much more numerous than on android and of much higher quality, I can't see that happening anytime soon on android, the market is uncontrolled and it's a more secure market place to sell apps. Android might be 'open' but in reality that really doesn't mean much, if anything it's negative in my experience. As much as you guys love jacking off to the idea of an 'open operating system' but that just leads to fragmentation; updates take longer as carriers and manufactures 'customise' them (bloat them), apps may be unstable or not even available (mine-craft pocket edition isn't even compatible with my phone for example). The average user doesn't care if the market place is locked and regulated, the average user doesn't care about rooting or installing ROMs, the average user doesn't care or understand what it means to have an 'open' operating system; they just want something that works and works well.
Then this new iPhone crops up, voice control that actually works and is useful for something, a dual core processor (yes this is in every phone now, but considering I'm upgrading from a single core I'll still see a big improvement) and an absolutely gorgeous camera. They just pushed me from leaning on the fence about my decision.
I know it seems like I'm heavily biased towards apple, but that's only because I was at one point convinced android was the bee's knees and I stuck with it for a year and discovered its flaws. I'll be giving up a few features like widgets and contact linking but it's worth it in the end for me. Android doesn't 'just work'.
To be fair I've never used a Galaxy device but all I've heard about it is constant praise; if it's polished on the inside and the outside it pretty much boils down to screen size and your general preference on operating system.
I love android but I have to say my experience has been similar to yours E1025, I too have the Desire HD but I haven't had the battery problems you describe (I regularly go 2-3 days without charging and I use mine for Gig calendars and email pretty much every day).
However, the OS is hit and miss even with a custom firmware. It's the same as on my Asus Transformer.
The OS just feels "Rough" and the Application Quality too varied. (Unless you stick to "popular" or "Highly Rated" applications, but that isn't always possible) I can pretty much equate this to the numerous Linux Distributions in this respect, yes the Open-ness is a great thing from an ethical/technological standpoint but it has some terrible side-affects such as Application/Hardware support issues when manufacturers try bending the OS to make their device seem better (Pairing a Wii-mote with HTC Sense? Nope - This may have been fixed). That's not to say these issues are insurmountable.
Minecraft pocket works fine on my DHD.
To be honest I can't tell the difference between my Single core phone and my Tegra Tablet when it comes to day-to-day performance, other than my tablet has no issues with 1080p content.
is iOS any better? - I can't say I've had enough experience with it to know. I don't want an iOS device either.
It's not droid, Droid is a name of a phone, while Android is the operating system
I still informally call phones running Android "Droids" even though it's not really correct at all because it's a much better response to "oh, what phone do you have?" than "a phone running the android operating system" or "Nexus S" (the latter will probably go above their head)

Everyone I know would say 'an android'
Everyone I know would say 'an android'
Or the common alternative, an Android phone.
Most people get what you mean (except maybe those who are very out of touch with smartphones, but they probably wouldn't be the ones asking what phone you use anyway).
A major factor that is making me lean towards the iPhone is that I can develop for it easier. It has a more powerful GPU which allows me to make bigger games, but I've had bad experiences with the whole android development kit and the Emulator which runs at <1 FPS on my monster computer.
However, iOS is missing crucial features that can only be added by Jailbreaking.
Right now I think I'm gunna go for the 4S. However if more information on the Nexus Prime, or Galaxy S3 is released before the 4S becomes available, than I may wait for them. Currently, tech websites are telling me that the iPhone 4S has incredible performance.
CTRL+SHIFT+F11 while your phone is plugged in and USB debug is enabled, and eclipse will push your app to your phone to test within 5 seconds. It's a really nice setup where the emulator is slightly redundant.

I've used both for more than a year each.
Go Android.
i have a droid 2 global which is suiting me well!
