Browsers suddenly stop working; leave unkillable process

So my browsers stop loading pages after an apparently random amount of time. The browser is still usable, but no pages will load. I say 'browsers' because the problem originally started occurring when I updated to the most recent version of Firefox. Firefox had been giving me hell for a while, so I decided to fuck it and install Chrome instead now that there are extensions available. I thought my problem was solved, but apparently not. Chrome suddenly stops loading pages and leaves me with a process that I can't kill via the task manager nor a dedicated process killer, just like FireFox did previously.
After scouring for data on this, there was some documentation on how the latest version of FF was having issues with older versions of my firewall, Zonealarm. I updated both and the problem persisted. There is no information on an unkillable Chrome process.
Malwarebites, AVG and Spybot Search and Destroy all come up completely clean.
I'm tempted to possibly try running a browser with Zonealarm turned off, but I can never be sure if the issue is truely fixed, as sometimes the browser will break after only ten minutes, but other times it can go as long as five hours without breaking.
So I don't know what to do. Apparently I need to learn how to Kernel Debug to find out where I/O requests aren't being completed.
Anyone got any ideas?

Forgot to mention, Windows Vista SP2.
Get rid of zonealarm it's causing your issue. I recommend instead Avast.

I have an antivirus, I would need a replacement firewall.

If not try COMODO firewall.

I know the router has a built in firewall, but...
I use my firewall more for blocking outgoing connections... Sometimes you have a program that you don't want to be able to connect to the internet. Zonealarm is very useful in that respect.
COMODO works fine, it can block programs that you don't want connecting to the internet.
Zonealarm is one bad firewall.
