All right, Windows Update is apparently not functioning for whatever reason, and I've been through the ringer trying to figure out why.
Whenever I try to start the Automatic Updates service, I get the following errors, depending on how I try to start it:

I've looked high and low on the internet for a solution to this, and I have so far tried:
- Registering/Unregistering/Reregistering all relevant DLL files
- Using sfc /scannow
- Going to the Windows Update site (to be given a similar error)
- Restarting and resetting the BITS service
- Using Microsoft FixIt for this issue (which turns out just does what I did in the command prompt and then fails to start the service, just like I did)
- Giving full permissions to every user and user group on the system for relevant registry keys
- Kicking computer
None of the above have helped.
My next thought was to try and remove everything related to Windows Update from the System32 folder, then visit the Microsoft Update site in hopes that it would download and install the latest Windows Update software. To my horror, each time I delete, move, or modify the files in any way, Windows takes it upon itself to instantly replace them.
FACEPUNCH, HOW CAN I...
1. Delete Windows Update completely and reinstall it?
OR
2. Correct whatever problem is causing wuauserv to malfunction?
OR
3. Get the university-mandated Cisco Clean Access software to shut its fucking face about Windows Updates which have been configured to its standards for God knows how long? (This one's not really an option, most workarounds for CCA have been dealt with, I just want it to shut its fucking face)
I clicked the ok button on your ss 4 times before i noticed it was a picture...

Thanks for contributing useful information to this thread.
Anyway, I don't think Windows Update is able to be installed/uninstalled.
You can always update manually as in go to their site and download the excutables, I'm not quite certain if its possible.

Well that's the thing - it's not an update that's needed. Both Windows and the Automatic Update system are completely up to date, it's just that WU is fucked up, so if even I try to install a version I download from the Microsoft website, it will cheerily inform me that "I am already up to date and no installation is needed". That wouldn't ordinarily be an issue, but my university mandates the use of Cisco Clean Access to use the network here - which requires that Windows Update be set to automatically download and install updates. Since Windows Update is fucked up and can't report to Cisco that it's set properly, I can only get online in 90-minute blocks before I'm kicked off and have to sign in again.
So, if I ever want to download something, stream a movie, play a game for longer than 90 minutes, et cetera, I have to get Windows Update back in working order, even though I don't need it to do anything - I just need it to be running.

This is what I've tried both manually and using their client. Something's the matter with the service itself, so when the program (or I) get to starting the service, it returns "Unable to start service, please ensure you have adequate permissions", I get the error pictured above in the command prompt.
