Punkbuster is terrible and I'm surprised they still use the pile of crap
I had this happen to me. Re-installing Punkbuster worked.
Since EA don’t own PunkBuster they are not able to access or overturn PunkBuster bans
Uhh, this does not sound good. I wonder if 3rd party VAC users can control bans for their games or is it up to valve too?
Uhh, this does not sound good. I wonder if 3rd party VAC users can control bans for their games or is it up to valve too?
Up to Valve. Just go into the Rust section and look at ANY thread where the title mentions being VAC banned. They get told to fuck off and try their story with Steam Support. (# of confirmed false positive Rust VAC bans: 0) Having said that, I'm sure devs/publishers can contribute hacks and exploits they've found to Valve for VAC's database, but they don't have direct control of overturning bans.
It's a bit annoying though because GGC-Stream also needed to unban the GUID's of banned users so even if you were unbanned on PB you still needed to wait for GGC to unban you as well.

"admits" sounds like they were hiding it. 'Confirmed' would be a better word.
Punkbuster is so crap, I remember getting disconnected every time I joined a game of BF2142 because of it.
Oh yes, Punkbuster. I remember constantly getting kicked out of CoD4 games for having the Steam overlay enabled. If there's one thing in gaming that should've died years upon years ago, it's PB.
Punkbuster is an absolute joke, there are hacking kits over a year old and still undetected. Ontop of that, if you use a plugin for a program, say some sort of off plugin for Dxtory, which uses DLL injection to record video, you're raped. Actually this is the case with pretty much all anti-cheat services.
This is like 9 years late? Battlefield 2 was disgusting with punkbuster
I'm just going to quote myself from an old thread on this one.
I got kicked out of bad company two because I felt the tank turrets were too slow, so I quit the game, launched my mouse options, and bound some buttons to extremely high and standard sensitivity. When I was in a tank the next time, I bumped the sensitivity to ludicrous, and promptly got booted within 5 seconds. This happened 5 times before I figured it out. Apparently having a high DPI mouse is a hack. Punkbuster is literally worse than Hitler.
It's trivial to bypass punkbuster, and it detects everything that is supposed to be there as hacks. I've tried to rip CDs while playing and it lost it's goddam mind because I had Exact Audio Copy open. I think I recall a friend of mine having punkbuster repeatedly kick him because he had ATI-CCC open on with beta drivers. It's insane.
stop using punkbuster everybody stop using punkbuster like holy shit do devs even play their own fucking games? punkbuster is cancer
stop using punkbuster everybody stop using punkbuster like holy shit do devs even play their own fucking games? punkbuster is cancer
You can't stop using it if you actually want to play though.
It's nice to see big names like EA just saying they messed up instead of making up an excuse! It's better to be honest, you know
I stopped playing BF2 & BF3 because of that piece of shit, got so tired of getting kicked out after 10 minutes. And the fact that it installs itself in system32 and runs as a service bothers me.
Punkbuster permabanned me in battlefield 1942, I had to buy another copy of the game to play it way back then. Even still after I did that it was always a bitch to use due to it constantly disconnecting and kicking me for silly obscure reasons. Absolutely garbage service.
I was always constantly dropped out of servers in BF2142 because of Punkbuster fucking up packet transfers. Punkbuster is shit. It was always shit, I can't even imagine it ever not being shit. The fact that these people have yet to lose their fucking jobs is incredible.
Fuck you PB. BF3, 2142 and BF2 random disconnects, and they fucking perma'd me in BF2 claiming I'd somehow hacked when I never had - then their second response was that "maybe somebody got a hold of your account, sorry nothing we can do". Same thing happened to a friend too. We both had to rebuy BF2 to play it again.
Ah, good ol punkbuster. I remember having to use it when I played America's Army. Terrible anti cheat made by an angry team fortress player after experiencing hackers :v:
PB kicked me from normal BF2 all the time for invalid key. I never even understood why. Never had a problem with BF3/4 though luckily. It needs to get lost and die horribly in all honesty, it's the worst program I have ever seen.
I don't get Punkbuster problems anymore because I update the shit out of it every time I run into a game that uses it, but back when I tried to play America's Army 3? What a fucking joke.
