Apologies if this is in the wrong section, this can count as hardware... so... Hey, guys. I'm getting a customized 3D printer that's based on the Prusa i3, (Just so you guys know what I'm working with) and I was thinking of what filaments I should use? A friend of mine suggested PLA since it's less toxic(?) than ABS and said something about me not wanting to print using ABS in my room. However, a guy I know who teaches robotics for a living suggested ABS since PLA dissolves in water, apparently. I don't know, I'm new to all this. So, here are my questions. What kind of filament should I use? What are the benefits and drawbacks of ABS and PLA? Is it possible to get support material that dissolves?
There is a 3D printing general thread, but it isn't so active so it obviously gets buried deep in the mess that is officially known as General Discussion: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1243304
