"We can Trike wherever you like." Google street view goes biking.
With Street View on Google Maps, you can take a virtual drive over the Golden Gate Bridge or see the bustle of Times Square from the comfort of your own home. But some of the country's most interesting and fun places aren't accessible with our Street View car. What if you want to tour the campuses of prospective universities, scout a new running trial, or plan the most efficient route to your favorite roller coasters in a theme park? I first started thinking about this question around two years ago. My day job is working as a mechanical engineer on the Street View team, but I do a lot of mountain biking in my spare time. One day, while exploring some roads less traveled, I realized that I could combine these two pursuits and build a bicycle-based camera system for Street View. The result? They should just skip to the cool shit and do a google "Building View" where some camera man walks around in a building and maps the whole thing.

I was literally about to say this, except I suspect the camera would be inside some sort of helmet.

For any practical reason or just because you think it should?
Haha, that was hillarious

I wish google added collision detection and multiplayer to google earth and made it so you could plug a racing wheel in
I think there should be google interior views for big public things like shopping centres so you can check where and what shops there are :D

google is the new ultor
I'm pretty sure a small car can go to the same places that a huge bike can.
And they get paid to drive around on bicycles around famous locations/places where people want to go?
Are those speed helmets really necessary?
this thing probably costs more than some cars.

I doubt they'll let you drive in to parks.
or stonehenge.
-snip-
Whats next sky view? Motherfuckers flying planes taking pictures of the indefinite amount of clouds?
what's next? are they gonna start putting cameras in space and taking photos of the whole world?
that bike looks like something someone could steal easily
that bike looks like something someone could steal easily
There's a damn camera on it, whoever was going to steal it isn't going to get far
that bike looks like something someone could steal easily
That just means less riding for google employees.
That looks heavy as fuck. At least put some sort of motor so he doesn't have to pedal his little heart out.

That poor bastard
Can't wait for Google Molecular View. I want to see what's inside the street.
Hmm.. I understand the Trike mentality: stabilization for the imaging unit, plus it's "exercise" and environmentally friendly.
But here's a better idea: Just put an electric engine on it, and you wouldn't have to sweat to death to map out street-views for Google. ;P
