I have never played Sim City, and some had and considered it as part of your "childhood", hearing as "one of the best games" I want to try it. I have been hearing everything about Sim City how it was great but EA ruined it, but there are tons of Sim City games and I don't know which one to start. Also, I heard the new Sim City had its SP patch where you can play without online connection. Any help?

A reminder: SC4 is most hardcore. So if you're okay with that, go for it. Might as well look for 3000.

I started off with SimCity 2000.
simcity 3000 is what I'd recommend, it's easy to start and the gameplay is like a smaller less critical version of 4, and the graphics aren't that bad actually.
start out with 3, its simple, when it comes to editing the terrain and building the city
also simcity 3 is avalible for the iPad and iPhone, I even had it on a shitty iPod touch at one point and it was enjoyable for an old quirky game
Sim City #1. Not as much stuff to put, but it was some decent fun watching my money vanish within a few days.
So you are saying, start with 3 because of its simpleness of making terrain and stuff, continue to 3000, and then 4?

no 3 is 3000, maxis was doing some weird convention about names, simcity 2000 and 3000 are 2 and 3 but they just have a stupid gimiky name. simcity 2000 and 3000 are virtually identical but 3000 had much higher resolution graphics and a few extra improvments. for fun though simcity 2000 cities could be exported to either simcopter or streets of simcity where you could run around in early but funny 3D shooting missles at shit or dropping people out of helicopters onto city hall
