Nintendo is set to kill off many of the Wii's online services in June, running a sword through Nintendo Channel, News Channel, Forecast Channel, Everybody Votes Channel, and Mii Contest Channel. Data exchange in certain games will also be ended.
http://www.destructoid.com/nintendo-shutting-down-wii-online-services-in-june-251414.phtml
it's not like wii use it or anything so go ahead
and three people were sad
it's not like wii use it or anything so go ahead
terrible
R.I.P. Wii Nintendo: "Everything Wii is no more, now it is the time for the messiah WiiU" And WiiU cant seem to catch up to new console generations
My friend keeps in touch with her long-distance boyfriend by playing Brawl with him :(
It haven't even been a year since the wii u release, what the hell are Nintendo doing
It had a good run, I guess
the wii u's online is so much better it's like comparing talking through two cans and a string to a skype call.
Read the article, they aren't removing everything, you'll still be able to play most games online
It haven't even been a year since the wii u release, what the hell are Nintendo doing
Which also works as a counter argument as to why the Wii U hasn't been successful yet. Also the fact that every big name developer seems to want to take Nintendo down by not releasing shit for their console. Good luck to em', Nintendo can survive without anyone's help if that's not apparent already.
Data exchange
in certain games
will also be ended.
Probably only in like really dead games. People still play brawl online as far as I know, and I doubt nintendo would cut that any time soon.
R.I.P. Wii Nintendo: "Everything Wii is no more, now it is the time for the messiah WiiU" And WiiU cant seem to catch up to new console generations
Not catch up to new console generations how, exactly?
why are you all upset. you just spun the globe around for an hour and never touched those features again
I really don't like the fact a corporation can suddenly shut down online services with no alternative left for the user but to buy new consoles / games. From what I get they're only going to shut down games that really are dead, but I still feel if I paid for it, I should be able to play the game to its full extent as much as I want, whenever I want, be it 10 years from release. This is why dedicated servers disappearing on PC games is bothering.
Holy shit misleading title And hardly anybody uses those channels anyway
Not the forecast channel! But yeah, not sure what Wii games are still reasonably popular online. Aside from the few obvious ones, Monster Hunter, Smash Brothers, Mario Kart...

Nintendo has ALWAYS done this. It's just what they do. I fucking hate it, though.
But... Everyone votes channel... I go on my Wii each week just to use it.
But... Everyone votes channel... I go on my Wii each week just to use it.
I too am sad to see it go It actually provided some interesting data
I liked the Mii contest channel. It was always fun seeing how people could recreate things.
Nintendo needs to be next to shutdown
Guess you should read the TOS.
ToS or not, it's still a huge middle finger to not provide data dumps of the affected services so that groups like the Archive Team don't have to waste unnecessary time archiving it all.
You guys need to get off your high horse, have any of you touched a wii in years

I had to return that Socom game on the PS3 because there's no way to play it at all with the service offline, even single player, and Gamestop is still selling it.
i remember i tried to convince my folks that the wii would become like a major part of our lives we'd use the news/weather channels like fuckin daily of course we never did but still kind of sad now
This is like the Xbox Live shutting down, only less people are using it now.
