I got a new HP Laptop 1/2 years ago and it worked really fine. But last few months it showed to replace ther battery, I ignored it and it still worked good. Now this week it cant even charge 0% available (plugged in, not charging) But i got my old ASUS laptop about 4 or 5 years of working and the battery is still very good! So forum.. is there any way to fix it by not buying a new battery?
Unless you're good at soldering, and fancies replacing the Lithium cells inside the battery, no.
Faulty battery.
You could try a different charge cable, but since it works but just not charge it seems unlikely that's the problem. No, there is no other way to fix it (apart from taking the stuff apart which you probably shouldn't do). Battery life is a bit of a gamble, you can't exactly be sure how long will it last, and different manufacturers use batteries of different qualities.
You can revive some of your battery's cells by zapping it a few times with a welder or car battery. If it's NiCad. Otherwise it'll just explode.
Can't you just order a new one from somewhere? Tried calling HP if they can send you a new one? I'm fairly sure you can't just repair a battery just like that.

[editline]24th January 2011[/editline] Actually if it's only 6 months old you've still got warranty on it, just contact HP support and they should send you a new battery for free.
If it's the same problem as m hp dv7, it isnt the battery. Apparently there's a common problem with the charging connections inside the laptop :/
And if he opens it up he loses his warranty.
HP laptops don't have any verification methods to see if the laptop's been opened. But I'll still advise OP against opening it, since you can easily screw up the internals of a laptop.
Laptop batteries are very fragile.
If you have a multimeter then check the voltage on the charging cable just to ensure there is no problem with it. It is more likely that the battery is at fault, but it's still good to check other possibilities.
I remember in the good ol' Windows XP days. If you had a dead battery it would still try and charge it although if the battery was dead it wouldn't hold the charge...
Bring it to a professional laptops and their batteries are difficult to work with. It does sound like either it's some bad cells or the charging circuit has malfunctioned either way bring it to a professional hopefully someone who has one other of the same model so you can test the battery. If you have a multimeter you can test the battery use the Ohm setting for a wile the resistance should go down as it charges. Then you can read the voltage if you want.

Microsoft took ownership of the RRoD, it just meant that you lost your Xbox for about a year.
