As title says, friend needs a gaming laptop. Budget is around 13000 Swedish kronor 1400 EUR, 1900 USD., preferred bought from www.webhallen.com
Will be used for skyrim, bf3 and wow and other stuff.
She has currently looked at http://www.webhallen.com/hardvara/145039-asus_g74sx-tz277v-i7-2670qm-8gb-1000gb-17.3-gtx_560m-bt_bf3
It needs to be a laptop and 17.3" or bigger.
For others, that's about 1400€ or USD1900

Yeah sorry originally made the threat on my phone and couldn't tab other to convert to USD/EUR without reseting what I already typed.
You sure he needs a laptop? Gaming pc's are way way supperior.
Needs to be a laptop, she switches between dad and moms house every 1/2 weeks so she needs a laptop to carry with her. She knows desktops are more powerful but she can't have 2 different PC's
1 stationary PC with handles, like the LANboy air.
I bring this back and forth every Thursday and its really portable.

Also could have 1 monitor at her dads house and another at her mothers, all she has to do is take the mouse and keyboard and computer itself. Try and convince her she can get a desktop one more time and if she says no then get her a laptop. Also the laptop you linked should run skyrim on med/high and maybe bf3 on medium.

That looks kind of ricer though. And I can see dust being a problem, too.

Its not too ricer in person when you turn the LED's off, Its just a case for those who really feel like making a frankensteined PC imo.
Go for the ASUS laptop. I don't think you can get much better than that from webhallen.
Go for the ASUS laptop. I don't think you can get much better than that from webhallen.
I agree with this but if she can get a gaming desktop with handles please try to ask her if she can do that so she won't have to spend so much or so if she does spend this much it will have better performance than a laptop.
And if she cant that asus laptop is the best you are going to get for that price.
The desktop/laptop argument pretty much boils down to what she plans to do with it other than gaming. You can't bring a desktop to school/work, regardless of handles.

He said his friend is using it to go back and forth between mom and dads houses, A desktop with a carry handle is perfect but its her choice.
On the subject of portable cases,

Cant go wrong with that.
Why is there a "Desktops are better" post in every single gaming laptop thread?
If the guy is asking for a GAMING LAPTOP then obviously he's not looking for a fucking desktop.

Cause in the event when the person CAN get a desktop we recommend it because its better not to waste your money on a laptop unless you NEED a laptop. We were in this situation saying if she switches once a week then a desktop would be fine but if she really wants to get a laptop then to get a laptop.

Also maybe instead of just coming in here and ranting you could actually help out the subject and maybe try to find her a laptop yourself?
[editline]2nd December 2011[/editline]
With that kind of budget she could get something along the lines of this
And if she agreed that she wouldn't be moving it around too much that she could get this build with maybe cheaper parts.
Also if she doesn't want a desktop then that ASUS is the best she is going to get for her money and thats fine if that is what she wants since it is her choice.

-snip- said laptop had to be 17.3
Does it seriously have to be from webhallen? Buying a Sager/Clevo laptop would be a better price-performance ratio than anything MSI or Acer makes.
[editline]2nd December 2011[/editline]
Also why do you need it to be a 17.3 inch screen? It'll still be 1080p and you can get 15.6" ones that run 1080p as well.

Probably has more to do with personal preference rather than performance.

Because alot of people dont realise a laptop is not meanth for gaming.
http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=category_browse&selected_cat=2 any of these,
or this http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=category_browse&selected_cat=1
Because alot of people dont realise a laptop is not meanth for gaming.
It's especially that the laptop is more for performance (frames) than graphic quality.
Also havin the most powerful gaming laptop isn't really worth it in the long run and isn't the smartest thing to do too.

Those are stupid expensive and a waste of money.
Those are stupid expensive and a waste of money.
Not really, for the 1800 you would spend on the g74, you can get a sager with a better cpu and a 6990m gpu rather than a gtx 460m. Plus, clevo makes top of the line notebooks.
Also why do you need it to be a 17.3 inch screen? It'll still be 1080p and you can get 15.6" ones that run 1080p as well.
Because 1080p on a 15.6" screen is tiny as shit.
Can't go wrong with Asus my friend. Just make sure everything is adequate to run those games, once you purchase it there's little room for upgrading. With 1900 USD that shouldn't really be a problem though.
On the subject of Desktop/Laptop, I was dead-set on getting a laptop then some people in this section convinced me to buy the parts for a desktop myself and build it. I honestly could not be happier with my decision.
Im very happy with my Asus G73JW. For a laptop its great. The only problem with their gaming models, the trackpad stops working, or acts up randomly. only does it sometimes, but its a really good idea to carry a regular mouse with it.

So higher pixel densities are a bad thing? Is that why everybody is now rushing to make screen tech with higher pixels per inch such as Samsung's SAMOLED displays and LGs AH-IPS screens?
If you're old, then yes bigger pixels may be better, but apart from that and bad eyesight it's usually a better idea to have more pixels in a smaller area. Especially on a laptop where you may sit slightly closer than on a desktop pc.
