I recently had the opportunity to meet and have my bass signed by Paul Gilbert. This was 2 days ago and the signature is already wearing off; I was wondering if anyone here had any suggestions for making it stay on. I've heard some people try clear tape, but it comes off which makes the signature come off even faster. Some people suggest clear nail polish or hairspray/spray on fixative but others claim it has solvents in it that pretty much finish off the signature. Any advice? I'm afraid to play my instrument!
Fixative shouldn't wear it away.

Edit: Yeah, I also have a fretless, but that's more of for fun than a main bass. Just got it so I could mess around, Pastorius style.

Bassplaya just told me that hairspray should work just fine . . . I'll probably do a few layers on my guitar, signed by Paul also (pic related). God, that was such a sick concert!

Thanks. He came to the camp I was at (see National Guitar Workshop thread) and played/talked for like two hours, then afterwords he signed/did pics with anyone who wanted.

Good call, it is an Ibanez Soundgear! And Paul Gilbert is mostly known for his solo guitar work, but he also played with his band Racer X. He also is fairly famous because he was Buckethead's guitar teacher.

I have an old Ibanez SGR and it was my first. I hope to get it signed.
