When I first installed Windows 8 a month or so ago, I had no problems with the PC Settings screen.
It wasn't until recently that I went in there to change a setting that I saw it was coming up blacked out.
This didn't really bother me, as I rarely ever use the tablet interface part of Windows 8, and enter the PC Settings "app" they have since I do most of that in Control Panel, but still, I would like to fix it if possible.
Anyone know what's up?
I've tried googling, but the key terms Windows 8, and black screen bring up search results like "Windows 8 Black Friday sale"

That's NVIDIA screwing up.
If u changed any settings in the Nvidia control panel like FXAA to ON or other settings u get this shit.
If u reinstall driver and set the control panal to let 3D application decide the problem is fixed.
If u change settings again u will get the problem again.
There is no real fix for this, NVIDIA will not solve it. They should not have gotten the status Win8 compatible because it is NOT.
Microsoft should make them fix it or force them to acknowledge it and remove the win8 status.

How do you even know he uses a NVIDIA GPU?
I have no problems at all, compared to my laptop with AMD having driver error at startup.

Because this is what happening with Nvidia and Windows 8.
U can try it yourself if u have an Nvidia 5 or 6 series, just turn those options on in the settings. FXAA, set performance to single display and the AA and u will see.
It is easy to reproduce the problem, u can do it. But i can show u;

Good call on me having an Nvidia card. I do.
And again, good call on changing the 3d settings. I was playing Alice Madness Returns in 3d and to make my LG 47" 3d tv work with Nvidia 3d, I had to change some Nvidia setting to enable it.
It's unfortunant that there isn't a fix, but since I don't really use the menu often, I will just have to let it slide for now. Maybe one day Nvidia and Microsoft will fix it.
Thankfully Metro isn't required, one good thing that you can still use the desktop mode. They'll fix it eventually

Agreed. I honestly forget that Metro is even there anymore. I use Start8 by Stardock, so when my computer boots up, it automatically goes to desktop mode.
