If you can't run Dead Island you probably can't run ARMA II.

A lot of the mods add extra equipment into the game and add more realism to it in different ways. You may want to head over to the megathread for details on which mods do what.
The other STALKER games are good too but it's pretty much a fact that SoC is the best.

If you like the first one then you'll like the other ones but I wouldn't buy them all at once.
