• The Secret Service, already horrifically understaffed and trained, gets budget frozen
First came the White House fence jumpers. Now it’s Congress, fencing off money for the embattled Secret Service because of a totally unrelated fight with President Barack Obama over immigration. Just last Thursday, an independent review panel warned that the Service is already stretched thin and “in many cases, beyond its limits.” Training has “diminished far below acceptable levels” the panel found, and “under any scenario, the Service has to increase significantly in size.” But two days before, on Dec. 16, Obama signed into law a governmentwide spending bill that did quite the opposite. The Service’s chief operating account was frozen at $1.534 billion - about $50 million less than the president’s request and the number bipartisan House-Senate negotiators had agreed to for 2015. To relieve some of the pressure, Section 150 of the same bill allows the Service to temporarily spend at a higher rate as needed to prepare for “presidential candidate nominee protection” in the 2016 elections. But that says nothing about improved security at the White House, where early estimates run from $25 million to $32 million to support additional canine units, overtime and training, as well as improvements to the security infrastructure for Pennsylvania Avenue and the vice president’s residence.

“There was absolutely no intention to freeze the Secret Service,” said a House Republican aide, who quickly added that “the president must bear some responsibility for any fallout that occurs as a result of the Homeland CR.” “Though he [Obama] obviously feels that he can act with impunity when he exceeds his constitutional powers, there are bound to be consequences,” the aide said. “He must shoulder some responsibility for those consequences.”
http://www.politico.com/story/2014/12/secret-service-immigration-budget-113767.html?hp=b1_c3 gg
I'd imagine the Secret Service will get beefed up by the Republicans as soon as a black guy isn't in the White House.
How many dumb people are going to assume "oh no, Obama is unprotected now!"
How many dumb people are going to assume "oh no, Obama is unprotected now!"
I hope no one takes the OP that way because thats simply not the case. It just means the Secret Service cant fix the problems that they needed fixed years ago
...already stretched thin and “in many cases, beyond its limits.” Training has “diminished far below acceptable levels” the panel found...
Isn't this almost the norm for Law Enforcement here?

What about the IRS not being able to perform internal revenue services because they don't have any money to do anything?
Honestly this really bothers me, regardless of political affiliation i'd like to think my president is protected to the best of our country's abilities, these little "political statements" that one party passes in order to inconvenience another is simply childish and frankly makes me feel like a bunch of kids with crayons are running the United States. These examples of incredibly immature legislation is the reason i chose to enter the Political spectrum as my field of study at Uni. It is seriously time for a change.
Well I guess we can keep our eyes out for more reports on fence jumping :v:
I live near DC and was at the white house recently. There are waist high metal barriers about 5 feet from the main white house fence. My friends asked a secret service personnel what they were there for and he said they were "secondary barriers" to make sure no one can jump the fence and get into the white house again. I'd say their budget is stretched a little thin if short metal fences are their backup plan.
I love all the completely important government agencies getting shafted as collateral damage. IRS is discussing temporary shutdowns, as well as hiring freezes, Secret Service got shafted. Does anyone really think about what these departments do? Like the whole IRS shebang was over a few incidents involving a few people, not the entire fucking agency. Taxpayers will be thrilled about the IRS budget slash until it takes them over a year to get their tax refunds, or to get a response from them regarding notices. Guess what, understaffed, underpaid and overworked departments make more mistakes. I can't believe how irresponsible the people controlling our budget are. So they investigate financial fraud, counterfeiting, and whatnot. Pretty important stuff when we live in an age where major corporate institutions are failing in shady ways.
fucken WRONG THREAD

I'm pretty sure that even with a more limited budget, Obama will still be the most well-protected country leader in the world.
Preeeetty sure he's mocking Republicans, not actually racist.
doesn't matter, you don't go saying that shit
wow only 4 inches? pfft we get atleast 20 inches of snow every year and no problem
From what I understand the secret service is more used to mild and hot situations, they just don't have the infrastructure to deal with cold threats

They know who their donors are, and their donors love less investigations into fraud and less IRS audits.
doesn't matter, you don't go saying that shit
Someone could get offended over words
Someone could get offended over words
To be fair, it is pretty offensive to call someone a republican.
waaah he said nigger on the internet, get over it
still racist though. this isn't 4chan
Why do you think the republicans want them slashed? They know who their donors are, and their donors love less investigations into fraud and less IRS audits.
We still have the SEC, and the BSA FinCEN at least
still racist though. this isn't 4chan
lol what makes us inherently better
lol what makes us inherently better
To my knowledge, nobody on here has announced their intentions to kill people, and then done so, and then posted pictures on the forums...
still racist though. this isn't 4chan
Yeah because using racial slurs could only be synonymous with 4chan. lol ok
First came the White House fence jumpers. Both of these issues involve people jumping over fences :v:
I feel like cutting the secret services budget will only make things worse...
I feel like cutting the secret services budget will only make things worse...
Please read the article. Their budget has not been cut. It's merely not being increased. Just like the government shutdown last year. It was shutdown because one half of the government didn't want to INCREASE THE BUDGET AS MUCH as the other half did.
doesn't matter, you don't go saying that shit
niggers (User was banned for this post ("Good job." - Swebonny))
