Is Six Flags Great America Adding a B&M Wing Roller Coaster for 2012? Chicago area theme park, Six Flags Great America could be in for quite an upgrade. They’re losing B&M stand up coaster Iron Wolf, which is rumored to become Apocalypse at DC’s Six Flags America, but they may be gaining a first-of-its kind in the U.S. ScreamScape has reported that the park may be getting a B&M Wing Rider or Wing Coaster like Gardaland’s Raptor and Thorpe Park’s 2012 coaster The Swarm. Six Flags Great America and B&M have a solid history. Iron Wolf was B&M’s first roller coaster, Batman: The Ride is a landmark roller coaster that began the company’s long running success with inverted coasters, and Raging Bullwas one of B&M’s first mega or hyper coasters. ScreamScape also mentioned that Six Flags recently registered the name “X-Flight”. Could this be name and design for Six Flags Great America’s 2012 roller coaster? We won’t have to wait long to find out. The park is scheduled to make an announcement on Thursday, September 1. The park is teasing the new ride with this puzzle piece image on their Facebook page where they’ll reveal more and more as the announcement approaches.
UPDATE
Chicago area theme park Six Flags Great America recently announced their 2012 roller coaster, X-Flight. The Bolliger & Mabillard designed roller coaster will feature a new seating system where riders sit on either side of the track instead of on top or below it. With a more open riding experience and no place to hide, X-Flight will be the first of its kind in the United States. B&M debuted this new design with last year’s Raptor at Gardaland in Italy. Here’s a video previewing Six Flags Great America’s new X-Flight roller coaster: http://www.sixflags.com/greatamerica/rides/xflight.aspx
That looks fucking beast
Looks similar to X2 at Magic Mountain
Oh god X2 is amazing! One of the funnest rides I have ever been on.
This looks extremely unsafe.
This looks extremely unsafe.
Surprisingly enough, rollercoasters are safe.
I really love these coaster types, the combination of rotation from the train and of the track can do some neat things.
Fuck yeah six flags in the chicago area is the shit.

A Wingrider like Raptor or Furius Baco has static seats. Oh and I think Six Flags parks looks horrible. Like the park of a casual RollerCoaster Tycoon player: rollercoasters everywhere, but no theming, no athmosphere. They should really change that. Instead they'll build a new coaster.
