I just got my new computer last week.. After installing all my games and programs, I had 593GB diskspace left. All I've done today is browse the internet and talk to my friends and the free space has dropped by ~50GB.
What the hell is causing this?
your pc might be making shadow copies and/or system restore points
try using disk cleanup
start menu > in the searchbox type disk cleanup and hit enter
have it check your drive, and when it does, and opens a dialogue, click the second tab (for vista) or click "clean up system files" then click the second tab (for 7)
after that, click clean up, under "System Restore and Shadow Copies"
also go back to the first tab after and click ok
Also, [url=http://www.petri.co.il/change_amount_of_disk_space_used_by_system_restore_in_vista.htm]read this[/url] to learn how you can limit the amount of space it's allowed to use for shadow copies/restore points. On a large hard drive, it can default to hundreds of GB. On my 1TB HDD, I limited it to 40GB. I can't see it ever needing more.
anyways, you only need 2 or 3 system restore points max anyway.

yea, but you don't need very many.

I used vssadmin to reduce from 105GB to 20GB and it's much more space now.
