Maybe it's the fan becoming loose and the blades are hitting up against something. My previous computer did that.

Punching it doesn't normally help things in the long-term, if it's definitely the HDD that is making the noise then now is a good time to do a backup. Then try running some HDD diagnostic tools, you can find them in the Ultimate Boot CD. [url]http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/[/url]
