90% of the features in watching like the moto 360 and the like are gimmicks.
Its why I've always admired the Pebble: it concentrates on being the best watch it can be.
- Sound effects! Choose a sound effect and it will play from your phone whenever you raise the watch up.
I can't decide if I find this extremely silly and/or want it :v:
I assume it quickly gets old though.

My favourite feature is probably the vibration alarm (and that it has sensible battery life).
I tend to use it to remind me when to get off a train, and since it's quiet it won't disturb other passengers even in the silence cars.
No one wants to spend 300 to 500 on something that tells you the time. I got my zenwatch 2 for 130 and it does everything I need it to. I don't need a camera on my watch or a heart rate monitor or all that shit,

Yeah, when you buy such an expensive watch it is not to tell you the time, it is just a status symbol or jewelry.
After having a smart watch and an NFC ring, I can honestly say the smart watch was fun for a day or two and the smart ring I'm still using after months with no plan to ever stop. It doesn't need charging, can unlock doors and your phone rather than having to type (I have mine on my right handed middle finger so just holding my phone unlocks it), the new ones will be able to make payments if you want to, and they never need charging because it's just an NFC tag in a ring. Plus they don't look stupid anymore, people typically assume it's a normal ring, and they're way cheaper.

Yeah I've never really gotten the point of them. I mean I get the convenience of seeing notifications at a glance without having to get your phone out but is that really worth hundreds of bucks?

If you have the money why not? I really liked my moto 360 even if I didn't use most of the gimmicks it had.
The strap got fucked up over time tho since it's leather and I'm now using a normal watch, can't say I miss it that much other than for the watchfaces.

...the moto 360 was released just two years ago though, meaning you couldn't have had it for that long. Why not just buy a new strap and keep using it if you liked it? They're not very expensive

I don't know, I suppose I got tired of it after 2 years, and by fucked up strap I don't mean that it's unusable or anything, just that it got stained and stuff over time to the point where it looks pretty ugly, also couldn't find any replacement straps that I liked and the official ones weren't avaliable here, so I just stopped using it a while ago.
Really wish they would work towards making smartwatches cheaper, everytime a new one comes out they cost MORE, and it's really offputting even for someone who has owned and liked a smartwatch, honestly.
I feel bad for anyone who bought one of these.
I feel even worse for people who bought the Google glass.
Or wait no I don't feel bad for you, they were ugly and contrived but you still spent your money on them.
I still have my Moto 360, can't live without it tbh.
I think phones are cooler. They are like the modern pocket watch.
All I want is a smartwatch that works with my iPhone and let's me read notifications like text messages or email subjects on it. All the rest is just a toy.
[editline]26th October 2016[/editline]
Actually being able to operate Siri from it would be super neat, too. If a Pebble can do all that, why would I ever get an iWatch?

I vaguely remember Pebble having some limitations iOS because the notification system is more locked down. It's possible they worked around that or Apple changed their policy though.
