Setting up Portal 2 coop for splitscreen+X360 controller?
18 replies, posted
So my plan today was to play Portal 2 co-op with my sister on the same computer system using split-screen, I'm on mouse and keyboard and she's on an Xbox 360 controller. But i just realized I have no idea how to do this or if it's entirely possible, they said it would be but there's nothing on the co-op menu that mentions it and google returns nothing.
So, help?
No, Portal 2 on PC has no split screen. Co-op is LAN and online only.
Not possible, you'd need 2 steam accounts and you can't log them both in at once on the same machine. Maybe you could kill steam while Portal 2 is running so you can log in and launch another copy with a different account but that doesn't seem too likely.
Maybe try a virtual machine?
It's possible, I saw this on SPUF
So apparently it's even easier to play splitscreen on Portal 2 than it was on Left 4 Dead 2, still not fully official though(would have been nice to have).
All you have to do is open up the console and type in "ss_map <MAPNAME>" without quotes, i.e "ss_map mp_coop_catapult_1", again without quotes.
Player 1 is set for the Keyboard+Mouse/Gamepad #1(buttons don't work, only analog sticks) and Player 2 is set for Gamepad #2. I've tried this with two Xbox 360 controllers so I can't say it works with any gamepad, I haven't figured out a way to have Gamepad #1 control player 2(need to start playing with config files), so you need two controllers to play splitscreen for now.
Holy shit.
Also whenever i plug in the controller I lose my mouse control.

That never happened to me. I have my 360 controller plugged in all the time, and had it plugged in the entire time I played Portal 2.
Mouse worked fine for me.
I had it working in splitscreen with control and mouse+keyboard but the other player couldn't jump look up or down or shoot portals, pretty much exactly what happened with L4D, we just need someone to create an input config to allow player 2 to control the other functions.

Ignore the shit quality recording, it actually shows how to do it though.

This worked perfectly for me. Pretty much just follow the guide on SPUF in the portal 2 section. It's stickied so you can't miss it.

Make sure the controller is set to player 2. If you're using an xbox controller the green light displays which player you are.

Has an easier way come up on how to do this, apart from the launch-game unplug-replug.
Was a pain in the ass with L4D.

It was a pain on the ass when I was trying to get it working. However, what ended up working for me (and is easy to replicate) was to download a program called "JoyIDs", install it, plug in xbox controller, in "JoyIDs" switch the xbox controller to ID #2, then plug the xbox controller in and out multiple times fast.
Then you just launch the game.
So is there any way to do this over LAN or should I just do it this splitscreen way? I'm guessing emulating a 360 controller with another will work, right?
lan is simple, just set up two steam accounts with portal 2.
So it's impossible with just one Steam account? My cousin doesn't have it yet and we were planning on have a bit of a LAN party.
Split screen works pretty well in my experience.
Since everyone else is to fucking retarded to provide a link:
