Why doesn't valve fix their slow client?
I thought I was the only one...
It's weird tbh. I'd expect Valve to get pissed at how much faster Origin starts up, which is VERY much faster...

Compared to two years ago, it may as well be on some form of crack :v:

I remember it being faster.
I remember it being faster.
It's definitely gotten better over the years but it's still slow as shit.

STEP ASIDE, THIS MAN IS A MIRACLE WORKER
Why is it that even though I have one of those emoticon things for the chat, I can't see the emote button? The only button I have is send. Does anyone else have this problem? I've sent a support ticket to Steam but no response after a week. I was hoping that after two updates for Steam it would have been fixed by now but no.

My mum was on crystal meth before this post saved her life
Wait what does this do on Windows?
Well its LAN settings so it has to do with automatically configuring any LAN settings. As you are highly unlikely to change it and it defaults to on, you can turn it off. I have not run into any problems with it being off.
It is probably most useful on if you are directly hooked up to a modem instead of a router.
Looking back at this post, it seems that steam attempts to get some sort of settings from the OS every time you do something in the client so turning it off makes the client stop or makes the response from the os much faster as it denies it outright.
Why this is not widely known, I have no fucking clue.

With auto detection turned on Windows tries to find a proxy using various methods every time anything goes out onto the internet. It is horrendously slow and isn't needed unless you know you are behind a proxy.

holy fuck
People still have that set to automatically detect? Everyone I know has been disabling that from the get-go since the early XP days... oh well I guess if it helps people. I've found that Steam just takes ages due to thrashing the shit out of your hdd's - an SSD would probably be the best upgrade to speed Steam up.
