Hey all, I could need some help for my new graphics card. So, I'm getting a new graphics card; I was looking at the EVGA 780 3gb and I have 2 questions that I hope I can have help with.
1) I currently have an EVGA 660 SC, and I have heard that you can SLI with 2 different cards, as well as that you can't. I was talking to someone about this, and he was saying that you can do it, but you have to use one as the PhysX card, but also I have googled it and they are saying you can't.
2) Are there any better cards out there that are around the price range? I want to stick to EVGA or at the minimum GTX so I could possibly SLI.
Thanks in advance!
This is for a friend btw
If you want to SLI, the card has to be the same e.g. 660 with 660, so 660 + 780 won't work.
I think crossfire enables you to do it with some similar cards like the 280x and 7970, not aware of this with SLI.
SLI is good in some games, bad in others. I'd be getting a 780. The 290/290x has some price issues and theres problems with cooling and heat for quite a few models. The 780 would probably be your best bet right now. But ask if your friend is playing on multiple screens or a higher resolution than 1080p, cause if he is playing single monitor 1080p it might be a better idea to get a 770 and save some money.
Thanks a lot for the quick answer, I'll reply as soon as I get something new from him :)
You CAN use SLI to use one as a dedicated PPU but very few games can take advantage of it, and with a 780 it's not worth it.

Honestly depending on his monitor, you might want to sidestep, and get a gtx770. It's quite a bit cheaper, and it's still a monster. It draws less power and what not. I would definitely recommend a ACX edition card, as well. If you really feel the need for more power, then you'll be fine getting the 780gtx.
