i'm thinking of getting a new alienware m14x, and i'm trying to decide between getting the i5 2430m or the i7 2670qm.
would it be worth the extra $250 to get the i7 or should i just get the i5?
Don't get the M14x for fuck sake.
Why would you buy an Alienware when you can get a superior Sager/Clevo laptop for cheaper? All Alienware laptops have to offer over the competition is over the top LED lights.
LOL is it really $250 more for the i7 over the i5? Use http://www.xoticpc.com/ if you don't want to get robbed nearly as bad. You're still getting robbed for adding the word gaming before laptop anyways.

It sounds like a lot but you have to remember that the i5 mobile is a hyperthreaded dual core. The i7 mobile is a hyperthreaded quad. Also +1 recommendation for XoticPC.
The bump up from an i5 2430 to an i7 2670 is only around $80 on xotic, it was more directed towards Alienware over pricing 99% of their computer parts.

should i get 2670 or 2760?
Do you even require an i7? If not then stick with an i5.

Also please don't get an Alienware

With a laptop you want an i7 if you can get it. The i5 is a dual core on laptops.

will the 2760 be a big upgrade in performance over the 2670?

the 2670QM, according to PassMark benchmarks, is about on-par with a desktop 2500k at stock clocks.
You don't need much more than that IMO
(also good choice not going alienware, they are horrid)

This is really not representive of the real life performance. Passmark utilizes HT much better than any application out there is going to.
