Well I've just got a T-Mobile dongle for my Eee PC 1000 and it's running XP which is sort of messing up as chkdsk /f /r isn't repairing or isolating the bad sector. I haven't had any problems with this with any distro of Linux. So I'm wondering if it's possible to use wireless broadband with any distro of Linux, I'm also looking into if the current release of Chrome OS supports them.
I don't think Chrome OS have got support for it, since it's very low on drivers.
3g dongles are supported on linux. Is it a Huawei device by any chance?
Ubuntu has pretty good mobile broadband support.
I was using xubuntu for ages with 3G through my phone (bluez, bluetooth connection to phone and dial from there).

Will show you the device vendor number, and device name.
I plug my phone in via usb and get a wizard where I click next a few times and select my provider. After that it's just like joining a wireless network. Your best bet is to try it and see anyway.
