Somewhat related: I always wanted a Rohk but didn't have the patience to play until I got one :(
this is why EVE is so amazing
http://themittani.com/news/heist-sma-robbed-600-billion if you want an actual source
Actual estimate is 600 billion. Given that a PLEX is around 500mil now, he's just stolen 100 YEARS of EVE Online subscription.
You would think after the third time this happened these big alliances would be more careful.
Roughly $17,801

Correction to my numbers... That's now $22,253.70 USD
Love EvE so many cool story's that come out from the game. Shame it's a steep learning curve.

just steal things to pay your monthly fee - you can buy game time with ingame money (you buy a 30 day card off of someone else who paid real money for it)
Compared to the other heist stories that came out of this game, this guy just seems like a massive dick. "Oh hey I'm quitting this game anyway let's screw over everyone that trusted me for no real reason".
Monthly fees are the only thing stopping me from getting heavily into this, I've been on/off for a period but can no longer afford the price so my character development came to an abrupt halt. I do intend to get back into it when possible though as it is such a fantastic game and loved every minute of it.
I recommend everyone who seems interested but are put off by the learning curve to at least try the trial and give it your best shot, I'm not that educated in the game myself but still have a blast learning new things. After my third or so trial I started getting really into it, they've made it much more user friendly and I would argue it's a lot easier to get in to now than it was a few years back.
Targie McRed > so the main question is, whats next for you? current estimates from SMA put your haul at around 600b+ isk, any idea what you're going to do with it?

Alisonia > Honeslty , I will probably solo it for a little while buy me another titan. I have had some offers from some ex SMA guys and other alliance I want to look into. The most fun right now would be to try all over again but do it in a shorter amount of time.

I like how he released a statement and everything, rather than just disappearing.
Didn't this happen a couple years back with that guy who set up the EVE bank?
EVE players (and many others) are just willfully blind sometimes.
I love these kinds of EVE stories.

Not as steep as people make it out to be.
Smart guy.
Ahahah. This used to be my alliance. Glad I don't play anymore or else I'd have been pissed.

To be honest it isnt THAT steep...In games like DOTA you are dropped straight in it with people relying on you to do alright and you are facing enemy players right off the bat.
EVE has tons of resources for help as well as loads of helpful players in the newbie help chat channels, if you know someone that is experienced at the game then they will probably be able to answer 99% of your questions.
I just find that I'm not patient enough to wait for training and such, and I find combat/mining pretty boring. I bet its a lot more fun when you start getting to the high end gameplay with a lot of money and expensive resources/ships involved, but it takes dedication to get that far.
it's less a learning curve so much as being able to sit through the first few months to get to the good stuff.
thats cool. eve always looked interesting (and i did play with their trial) but i just cant make that sort of commitment. love hearing stories like these tho
I remember a year or two ago there was a guy who flew an unprotected freighter (full of some absurd amount of expensive and rare loot) through a hostile area, getting blown up by two little guys
[editline]e[/editline]
found it, he lost $6000 worth of blueprints and such

you must have been bad
you can get to "the good stuff" in a few days, FW and RVB are options from day 1 as are many of the biggest alliances.
thats 1142 months of game time
That's evil enough as it is but doing it and quitting the game while you're at it just reaches new levels.
