• The "Emo" steryotype, good or bad? should parents be concerned?

I was browsing the internet today, and I ended up reading this article http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-566481/Why-child-safe-sinister-cult-emo.html now, in my opinion, I think that this article has a very misinformed view of "Emos" its about emotions hence the Emo part, not suicide. Being a huge fan of MCR, maybe my opinion is a little biast, but really, I have listened to many of there songs from there first album to their 3rd (black parade, as mentioned in the above article) and while the main theme of these three albums seems to be death/despair/suicide, I found that none of them encouraged it, they just sung about it, because it's something that Gerard Way (lead singer of MCR) has experienced and/or thinks about sometimes. It doesn't glorify death, nor does it glorify suicide in my opinion. so what are your opinions? let the debate begin also I suggest you fully read the above article (User was banned for this post ("Asking for opinions - Read the rules sticky." - Megafan))
If people want to be Emo, let them. The same with goths, moshers, or any other type of sub-culture.
I remember getting banned for posting that article in the news section a long long time ago :v:
The article is from 2008, I don't think emos even exist anymore.
Yes, they do. I have a friend who used to call himself emo, along with his friends. It's just a subculture, and it is sometimes related with self-harm, and sometimes when taken to its heights, suicide. But otherwise nowadays its just a teenage fad subculture.
The article is from 2008, I don't think emos even exist anymore.
Are you joking? They have became more popular since 2008. Anyways, if someone chooses to label themselves as emo, let them do it.
It's one of those fads born out of the fact that teenagers look up to the supposedly "cool" and "edgy" suicidal/depressed kids.
