This is Fantastic. It feels like a combination or Neon Genesis, Guren Lagann and Kill la Kill. That is, beautifully playful and colorful animation and characters, mixed in with dark undertone and a slightly eerie post apocalyptic setting.
this guy is fucked
how much did nishigori pay you is it blackmail? do they have your family?
In a sea of negative opinions, one man stands up against the tide of hatred. Refusing to bow to peer pressure, he boldly exclaims his love for a show nobody else in the thread likes. You really have to admire his bravery.
what a fucking madlad
In a show with virtually no plot development what do you do? You have two episodes in a row dedicated to SoL bullshitery of course!
I like the show's take on humanity's future (but they chose not to focus on it and instead, focus on a love triangle) I like the heroine (but they chose to do a 180 on her character in the second arc and make her as bland as possible) I like the enemies (but they made the antagonist a fucking monster spider girl in the second arc) I still like the OP.
What I like about Franxx is thinking that it's a ploy by the Japanese government to save the falling birth rate by encouraging weebs to make pure-blooded Japanese babies.
Sex involves physical motion, a lot of it; not making muppet faces for 24 minutes
https://twitter.com/DARLI_FRA/status/997039274624139265 this week on darling in the franxx, it's nothing as usual!
So there's six or seven episodes left and they're still dragging their heels with teen drama romance nonsense? Why would you make this a 2-cour series if you don't have enough material for even a single cour to begin with?
I don't think I've ever seen a show as inept at connecting narrative and character together as Franxx. Moral of the week storytelling is derided as a bit of a cliche but Franxx can't even manage that at this point. With the next episode (unless it isn't in the preview) it'll be three episodes since the mecha were last used. This show has some of the worst stop start pacing I've ever seen.
Trigger's not directing anymore episodes so I wouldn't be shocked if we never see the mechs again. Watch the final episode just be the kids talking it out with the spider princess.
this show isn't even giving me much to say any more ikuno gets her most significant bit of screen time in the entire show which is a problem because they're suddenly trying to make me care about her they have a wedding kokoro and mitsuru have their memories altered, making the last three episodes fucking pointless
this might be the worst episode yet
wow you guys are focusing on the flaws way too much. I had no idea what I was getting into so maybe it helped lower my expectations, but I really like the post-apocalyptic themes and robots controlled with couple chemistry. I agree that it's a really dumb premise but once you get past that I think it's fun to watch unfold. My biggest problem so far is how slow it's progressing. Love triangles are core to this idea so like it's necessary to show couples forming and the characters' past but after all those episodes it's still extremely surface level about everything else. They've been poking at stuff like partner changes, same sex relationships, inverted roles, old crews dying, adults' goal of detaching from physical form, adults not having reproductive organs and living in VR, kids with reproductive organs being called parasites and being used as weapons. Then there's the Franxx doctor who seems to have power over every decision related to the pilots and gave the main crew custom robots because they're more emotional than usual pilots, yet whenever they express feelings they get knocked down. There's so much potentially interesting stuff yet there are only 6 episodes left and we still know nothing aside from what characters feel about each other. ZeroTwo became a generic animu girl and they introduced a stupid spider queen villain. At this rate I hope there is supposed to be a 2nd season because right now it's going nowhere and they're gonna have to rush things out and leave out the interesting parts just to end it.
"you guys are too negative" then he complains the rest of the post...
That's exactly the problem though. I agree, the premise IS really promising. That's what makes the glacial pacing and constant disregarding of previous character development so frustrating. Like, you can't tell a serious story about relationships when one of the characters involved in those relationships is a comic relief side character who's only personality trait is "he's a fatty". You can't tell that story when characters will pull personality 180s in between episodes. You can't tell that story when major plot elements are just casually discarded or ignored. in some universe DitF was about little angry 02 and Hiro escaping from APE and it was the best show ever made. Instead we got Evangelion: Seinfeld Edition.
I'd describe my darling in the franxx experience as clicking on a really hot porn thumbnail and getting a 240p amateur video shot on a 2008 phone camera by a pimply teenage nerd fumbling to unclasp his date's bra strap until she gets tired and leaves so he ends up jacking himself off for the rest of the evening
considering the recurring theme of this shit they'll probably recover their memories like hiro and zero-two and make that thing pointless aswell
What really bothers me about that is every comment is just "OH THE DEATH FLAGS", like it's always the top comments. I can't tell if they're just mocking the show or think setting up death flags for 18 episodes is the epitome of storytelling.
The breed of anime fan cultivated in the fires of Fast Anime has a more discerning palate than the average weeb, and a lot of us are far more cynical and jaded (I know I am.)
I don't understand people who like this show. They're either immune to critical thought or they just make up character depth that doesn't exist. I've seen several different justifications for why Hiro is such a deep character, and who knows, maybe they're all right, his character is so utterly bland that you can project anything you want onto him and he doesn't do anything in the show to contradict them because he doesn't do anything to begin with.
A superhuman killer waifu who gets naked and falls for the bland incompetent protagonist in the first episode. But seriously, I think they could have made a decent series with the setting and 02 at least, even if they're cliche. They just did everything poorly. I think people saw what was there, and assumed things would be developed, but kept up hope even when nothing interesting happened. I did that for a good while. A shallow story wouldn't even matter if they trimmed the fat and had good action or made you care about the characters like at all.
You don't have to like the idea of a show about a dinosaur and her boyfriend fighting the evil dystopian theocratic government in a love powered moe girl robot, but personally I think it could've been really fun.
that setting also pretty much describes getter robo armageddon and muv-luv off the top of my head
That isn't what the show is about though. They finished that storyline by episode 6, fucked around for a few episodes, broke them up for one episode, got them back together again in the next. I mean yeah, as a written description that's what the show is about. But none of that actually happens in it. In fact we're six episode from the end and our main protagonist is now only just starting to think that he should rebel against them. Instead we've spent several episodes agonizing over a "mystery" that was plainly obvious as soon as it was brought up, several episodes with characters doing nothing, and several episodes trying to set up a relationship between two characters because apparently they forgot to do it earlier. The world is not interesting enough to slow the pace down this much. We've spent nearly all of our time in the meeting room or in the house. The mystery about 02's older partner was dead on arrival because Hiro was literally the only character it could have been from the start, the villains are the council from Evangelion but even less interesting, and there's NO FUCKING MECHA ACTION.
Yeah, precisely my point. I'm just explaining why I was initially interested.
The klaxosaur battles are the worst part of this show, even though I like battles and combat in anime. The problem is that the klaxosaurs are terrible-looking anime-cgi black and blue blobs. It's like they tried to have enemies inspired by Evangelion angels in the show, but then completely missed why Evangelion angels were cool
don't you love it when the mecha anime youre watching suddenly becomes a cheesy slice of life show. This is more offensive than the second half of railgun S, at least the first half of that made up for the slice of garbage that came after
