If you're going to do something this stupid, at least share with us the reason why you refuse to read so that I can point and laugh.
I'll give not one but three reasons.
1° I've started Berserk by watching the anime, so I will finish it by watching an anime as well.
2° I want to read mangas in Japanese, that's what I had always set my mind to. Since I can't do that just yet, I won't read a manga now.
3° Even then, reading long stories has always been hard for me. In order to force myself to keep my focus up, I have to read novels out loud. Call me retarded but that's the truth. And I'd love to do that with Berserk once I can read Japanese.
4° The 1997 anime also didn't have the most stellar reviews, but I watched it and enjoyed it beyond my expectations.
5° The infamous reputation of the 2016 anime has drawn my curiosity.
6° I don't watch anime often. It's very rare, actually. It took me 3 months to watch the 25 episodes of the 1997 anime, and it was the only anime I watched in that period. And its ending had such a cliffhanger that I want, I need the sequel immediately.
If it sucks as much as you say it does, then I'm gonna watch it quickly, judge for myself, be done with it and start another anime as I had planned. Sorry if you don't like it, I'm sure the original materials is beyond any adaptation, like it's often the case. But I'm not ready to read it just yet.
i wont stop you but as a big fan of berserk i still recommend you don't watch the 2016 anime before reading the manga
the conviction arc that the 2016 anime covers is my favorite part of berserk and experiencing an awful adaptation of it first would spoil the story without having any of the emotional impact or tension that makes the original so great
the translations are great so there's no reason not to read the manga instead, even if that means only reading a couple chapters at a time

This is the first episode. It then goes on to be a total disaster and skip Black Swordsman and Lost Children in the first episode. So that's at least five volumes, maybe more, completely fucking gone right out of the gate.

2: that's just stupid, that's like saying you won't watch a French movie with English subtitles because you'd rather learn French. Learning to read Japanese is a good goal to have and all, but if
the series exists in a language you can actually read already, why the fuck would you wait to read it later? you're just putting an arbitrary limit on what you can enjoy.
3: Are you actually a 5 year old? I really can't comprehend this complaint, people who say reading is hard just come off as not trying and lazy to me.

Just try it before you decide you can't do it, Berserk's a fucking masterwork of a manga, it flows easily, it always engages you with it's panel layout and dialog pacing. Reading a manga is not
the same as reading a book, there's pictures, you won't lose focus on the words because there's more to it than the words.
Please heed this advice and I'm sorry if I came off too rude.

It skips over more story material than the 97 anime but at least it gives you a better ending and is at least competently animated. Hell, just watch the third movie if that's what you want.

see the issue with this is you asked the best way to experience the rest of berserk and everyone here is going to unanimously say "read the manga" because its the source material instead of watching the 2016/7 version which 1. skips two entire arcs 2. is poor cgi all the way through, does not get better 3. entirely lacks the tone, style, or art of the source material OR the 97 anime and 4. is just ways and away a butchering of what material it does manage to get to. i'm with hakita that conviction (out of what i have read) is probably the best arc and i cannot even imagine experiencing it in that medium

Speaking as someone who has neither read nor watched any Berserk material, the 2016/2017 show looks fucking terrible visually even when compared with other full 3d shows.
Reading the manga was always off the table. I asked which anime, movie, or video game I should watch to get the rest. I explained to you why I won't read it now, if you can't have an ounce of respect for my decision to do so, then you don't get to tell me to get off my high horse.
I've already started to watch the 2016 anime. It's not great. Of course it's not, I knew it even before you warned me against it. But it'll do for now nonetheless. The video games seemed interesting to watch as well since they feature the same actors as in the 1997 anime (I think).
I'm actually gonna do the mature thing now and ignore any hostility directed at me, and bear no ill will towards any of you. I would also appreciate if you all adopted the same attitude.
