Irozuku Sekai no Ashita kara's first episode had exactly the type of stupid writing and dumb melodrama on top of super generic "hello i am this season's pretty anime" direction I expected, but I was impressed with how the plot and writing was even dumber than I expected.
mha is well paced character progression and probably the best shounen airing atm (except maybe jojos 5)
gave all 3 seasons a 9-10, highly recommend it, good fun with great animation and serious moments
Man my nostalgia goggles must not be working because I did not feel all that engaged with the first episode of index III. Most of the gags feel like everyone coming up with excuses to beat Touma up rather than his misfortune/misunderstanding trope which even then don't stick.
Now that I think about it, I don't know if I ever managed to watch through the main series. I just remember really loving the side stories.

Sounds like an improvement to me. Touma is the single weakest part of the entire series in my opinion. He's a naive idiot who pushes his views on others constantly and serves as generic self insert protagonist for the series' fan base. Literally any other character in the series is more interesting than that bumblefuck.
Shiage is a way better 'normal people' protagonist than Touma imo

I only made it twelve minutes in before the fact that the show didn't really have any jokes besides "the maid is a huge creepy pedophile" which was less funny and more just uncomfortable. Does it actually have any humour beyond that premise?
shounen hero shit usually bores me out of my mind yet I watched all 3 seasons of BnHA. it's alright.
So I checked out the first episode of Reincarnated as a Slime (I'm following the manga) and while I found the first part to be gratuitous (6 min before he gets reincarnated) everything was alright once he was a slime. I love how it's animated and can only hope it keeps this up for the whole series.

I really just love how they played with the animation and the music in the first episode. it was almost lwa style animation fuckery. I will fully admit that I probably mostly liked it because above all else I am an animation nerd

It doesn't. Like in the original Gridman, Gridman can only be communicated with by typing on the keyboard, Yuta being the exception. The other kids are the support crew for Gridman, ANZ they didn't power him up, they just told him where the kaiju's weakness was.
