Don't make it the first anime you ever watch though.
Agreed.
While series like D-frag!, School Rumble, Sabage-bu!, etc... get their humor from absurdity, the humor in PaniPoni overtakes that by far and approaces surrealism. It also relies heavily on meta knowledge of other series and references plenty of other things.
It's like combining the rapid fire pacing of Zetsubou Sensei with the abstractness of the Monogatari series and stirring in a good spoonful of anime, games and popular media from the 1980-2010 period.
The fansub I watched years ago had translator's notes added to the episodes trying to explain everything. They pretty much were a permanent fixture; watching anime with two subtitles at once :V
the original manga was even more absurd, I'd say even more than the Zetsubou Sensei manga
Ah, remember ye olden days of fansubbing? When TL notes were in nearly every series explaining even mundane shit like what a bento was and hardsubs were then norm.
Lot more subbing groups back then too and quality was prioritized over speed.
And thanks to Netflix there's been a demand for fansubs once again
Old fansubbers explaining absolutely everything helped me understand some basic concepts. Too bad i had to pause whenever they did that so i could read it. Made some episodes of a series last about 5 minutes longer than they should have,
Obligatory

Man, I do miss that time;
OP/ED lyrics translated by ear and with Google Translate, groups having too much fun with typesetting and over-the-top karaoke effects, people complaining in forums that their preferred fansub is one day late because their translator went AWOL, spoiling myself by downloading the HQ version once overnight and then discovering I didn't had the process power to properly watch h264 encoded files....
I always enjoyed commie subs. Was pretty funny when they made the subs react to shit that was happening on screen so they were good for a laugh if nothing else.
I can't stand Commie subs. They're what happens when a sub group decides that you're there for them and not the show, and they range from mild unfunny edits to completely rewriting the entire script into complete garbage.
brother recommended hunter x hunter, just finished the Hisoka vs Gon heavens arena episode, fucking excellent.
yet another anime I don't understand why I put off.
Then again I'm only watching it because reading manga is exacerbating my fever.
I thought Hunter X Hunter was a kids show and that's why I put it off.
Boy am I kicking myself for doing that for so long.
Except these days HorribleSubs is usually the only option and they are one step above DVD subs in terms of typesetting and styling. My entire show list this season is HorribleSubs because they're the only ones who sub anything anymore. If it ain't HorribleSubs then it's just some group that takes HorribleSubs shit and re-encodes it.
Commie is rarely the only option and even at their height they rarely were. Do they even do anything anymore?
Eoten
if joshiraku came out today it would be impossible to watch on crunchyroll, i remember whoever fansubbed it wrote articles explaining the jokes/references in each episode.
Horriblesubs... doesn't sub anything. They rip simulcasts, despite what they say on their website, it's painfully obvious when the only shows they don't release are the netflix shows that are 6
months late.
Another example is Gintama. The show has so many references and shit that the first couple of season have TL notes all over the place AND like a couple minutes worth of note cards at the end explaining all the jokes.
Whatever, you know what my point is.
If horriblesubs actually subbed everything themselves they would be doing a fantastic job seeing as they release almost every show each season lol
I had to skip out on Symphogear S4 cause no one else but Commie subbed it
fuck em
but you missed out on the best arc where we discovered that child abuse is good, and that children are like tomatoes, when you beat them they grow up better
While commie tends to be trolls and even more so when they do symphogear could you imagine watching it with none of the songs subbed at all?
Damnit Rokudou no Onna-tachi, you were supposed to reinvent the harem genre, not leave me in tears.
Don't bulli best boi.

October
They're also playing the first episode on July 5th for some reason.
I imagine that'll be a first-viewing preview for AX
Started rewatching Space Dandy. God damn is this show dripping in aesthetic.
The subs arent that bad
I hope that'll be available online and not a private showing
In a piece of news that is the most exciting announcement in months to me and pretty much nobody else, the author of Seirei no Moribito and Erin the Beast Tamer is getting another anime adaptation.
Production IG did both of those, so hopefully they'll return for this.
Saika Totsuka, the cutest boy??
