Chio-chan's anime is a decent enough adaptation. The direction could be stronger in places and the animation is pretty cheap, but it gets the job done.

I can't believe that we have four isekai series and a VRMMO anime this season. Or two VRMMO isekai, one regular isekai, and a VRMMO anime.
And they're all fucking awful. Please get used to these because there are still eight isekai anime announced and on the way.
spider isekai will save us all
Matoi-tech?
Looks like Ryuko started a mecha business after KLK
Will finally start Yuru Camp.
Got about halfway through Sunohara-sou no Kanrinin-san and decided that... No.
Hataraku Saibou seem like fun
Remember to watch Planet With, from the author of Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer (Hoshi no Samidare)
Franxx ended and I thought it was an okay series overall. And now it looks like i'll be watching volley ball and badminton.
I really like the cast of Gridman but I was the same way when Frankxx's cast was first introduced, so I'm weary as fuck
Such an obnoxious cause for caution solely because of Frankxx's existence
I'm actually interested in what people here thought about FranXX. Personally I stopped after the first episode because it was drab and dumb, and I figured that the show was going to be terrible based on what people here talked about about the other episodes before it went into it's own thread, so I was really surprised when a lot of people thought it was one of the best of the season and only started mistepping at the later episodes.
So yeah, what did people here who watched it think of it? I thought it was and would be terrible but apparently I wasn't right. Or was I?
I consider myself capable of enjoying some pretty uninspired and bad shows in spite of themselves, but Franxx felt uniquely dull. I think I gave up 7 ish episodes in, so Streecer's pending 20k word review ought to be good.
Oh they love it. 10/10 Anime of the year.
Dang, Hanebado isn't merely overdramatic, it's quite positively animedramatic. It's great looking though and I like the main character's attitude. I've so longed for someone in sports anime to call it out as just "a sport" when people are getting all teary-eyed over something like how important basketball or tennis is. I know it's going to change to the opposite, so we'll see.
Well Ep. 1 of Hataraku Saibou Osmosis Jones the Anime was pretty fun. I can see them having a good variety of material to work with.
The Master of Ragnarok & Blesser of Einherjar looks like a decent to above decent harem anime
I'm hoping one of the upcoming shows this season ends up as a hidden little gem given how mediocre everything looks right now but I have my doubts.
This weeks Engrish is sponsored by Persona 5

Even though they got it right in the game
RPGMaker horror games are my shit. I was pleasantly surprised when I learned this was based on one.
Chio-chan's first episode was funny, but I'm a little wary of the level of fanservice. Yeah, I know the guy's a hentai artist, and later chapters get pretty lewd, but all of the boob bouncing just threw me off.
One woman's breasts kept jiggling even as she was standing still. Like, jesus christ lady, calm your tits.
I had to pause Asobi Asobase because I was laughing too hard to keep up.
Worth a watch
Welp FLCL Progressive ended and im probably going to be on the minority here but i really liked it, except episode 2 ...that felt pretty out of place
I've seen a surprising number of people who absolutely love it. More power to that crowd, I guess, since these sequels are happening whether people want them or not, but I cannot relate.
But I do wonder if there's a bit of EVA-Rebuild syndrome going on where I might find more appeal in it if the original didn't exist, but... I doubt it.
FLCL Progressive is a bad sequel to FLCL that takes characters, imagery, and themes from the original in an attempt to recreate the magic of a passion project that was good because of the
staff involved and not any of the following: robots with tv heads, guitars, the pillows, giant clothes irons, vespas, references to older anime, characters with glasses, cat ears, Haruko, Canti, etc.
those elements are why FLCL is good, on the surface. but the reason they work, the reason FLCL has a lasting appeal and is still good, still feels fresh and original now in 2018, is because of
the passion behind it. The staff at Gainax wanted nothing more than to make the coolest anime possible then, and they did what they wanted. They actively discuraged people from trying to
think too hard about the story, because it was just supposed to be a cool show, it never tries to explain itself, it doesn't want to, and it finishes the story it wanted to tell in six tightly packed
episodes.
FLCL Progressive however, is a soulless, corperate cashgrab attempt at playing to nostalgia. While a real sequel to FLCL, by the staff of FLCL, would likely contain no returning elements from
FLCL or even be called FLCL, here we have nothing but rehashed ideas. the robots have TV heads because they have to it's FLCL, they fight a giant hand robot in episode 1! horns stick out of
people's heads, HARUKO IS BACK LOOK GUITARS THE PILLOWS VESPAS AREN'T WE JUST LIKE FLCL???
No, no you're not. Progressive is hollow, devoid of original themes or idea. The people making it, they don't fucking care about FLCL, they didn't want to make this project. It's bland, uninspired,
it's tame and flat and heartless and it's just not FLCL. It has the images, on a service level, but none of the spirit.
But not only is it a bad sequel to FLCL, it's just a bad anime. it's generic and uninspired at best and at worst is cheap and predictable, and it's fucking boring as sin. the second episode is
fucking 90% dead air with nothing at all happening. Progressive is a bad anime regardless of the original existing, it sucks ass. the characters are lifeless despite trying to be wacky, it's idea of unique character design is "cat ear headphones" which isn't fuckin original in the slightest, and the directing is limper than a cooked noodle.
Speaking of NGE, I'm interested in what y'all around here think of the series proper, End of Evangelion and the Rebuild series, because I'm sorta new around here and to "anime" in general (as much as I loathe saying someone is into anime), and I've seen wildly differing opinions all over. Plus a bunch of you seem a cut above most people who talk about japanese cartoons on the webs.
Personally, NGE was one of my first shows after finally admitting that "anime is trash" is a dumb opinion to have, simply because I knew it was held in high regard and made real impacts in the industry when it came out. I really liked it. Hell, episode 2 has legitimately one of my favourite cuts in any visual media, and I can't really say that much about most shows or movies I've seen, so I can definitely say the show stuck with me. Even the last two episodes, which I had heard beforehand were not very good. Yeah they clearly ran out of budget, but it still felt like a worthy ending and I enjoyed the show. It wasn't exactly mindbendingly difficult to understand what happened, since it took me like a solid 10 minutes of thinking and researching to understand the whole picture of the show's "confusing" plot. I knew there were movies and other shit that, at the time I thought, merely expanded on the show. Having been satisfied with the ending, I then felt no need to watch any other NGE content.
About two years later I finally watched End of Evangelion, and I can't really remember why. I didn't really like it or see the need for it, but maybe the 2-year disconnect had something to do with it, but it felt like all it was was watching people go through meaningless stuff so we could watch a bunch of "trippy" visuals that didn't mean anything for an hour and a half, until the very last scene which I admittedly liked, but not as much as the original ending.
So here's where my first bit of confusion and/or interest comes in. I've understood that End of Evangelion is the proper ending, the one Hideaki Anno wanted to do but couldn't because they ran out of budgeet. I've seen plenty of recommendations for NGE straight up say to skip the last two or something episodes of the show and switch to the movie instead, which I obviously can't really agree with. So what are your opinions on it? Is it a better ending? Or is it better to just watch as more of a "what if" scenario or even entirely skip? (Or your general thoughts on the movie)
The second bit is the rebirth series of movies, because I honestly have no fucking clue what's going on with them and I've even researched them a bit, but I'm still really unsure. I tried watching the first one but couldn't get even half an hour in because it was literally just the beginning of the show but... there were changes? I can't even really remember, it just felt pointless and kind of disrespectful, even, to me and the series proper. I understand that they change from the series as they go forward, as there's even a new character I think that I saw somewhere and thought was some sort of fan-fiction character. So yeah, what's going on with them and, you know, general opinions and so on. The whole idea just seems bizarre to me and I honestly don't even know where to begin.
On one final note, NGE also seems weirdly polarizing nowdays. In general I see a lot of people either praise it (and the following movies) to heavens or a lot of people claiming NGE's just an overrated and confusing either turd or mediocre show. Polarizing opinions for shows themselves aren't really anything new on the internet, but it just seems a bit strange that such an old, important show has garnered such a polarity in opinions. It sure as hell wasn't perfect, but it does do a lot of really good shit and is overall a pretty neat little package with a unique feeling.
Evangelion Rebuilds are trash with no redeeming qualities over the original series, they have no point to exist.
i completely agree with your opinions on the TV ending and EoE
even though i watched them almost back to back, EoE felt really gratuitous and i had a hard time getting immersed into it because of how much it kept trying to shove shock value in your face
i still think it's a very good movie, but the TV ending is in my opinion the perfect ending for NGE, it's an abstract character study, and the characters and their mental state was always the focus of the show, so it made more sense than showing the true events happening at the time
the rebuilds are basically an intensely streamlined reimagining (and sequel) that focus on the action and story more than the characters
it's how i got introduced to the series and i still like them as their own thing, but they definitely lack what makes evangelion a masterpiece
movie 1 is basically just a condensed movie version of the first 6 or so episodes of the show, movie 2 takes more liberties and movie 3 is completely new and only vaguely follows the Kaworu episode of the original show
I feel like it's a matter of opinion when it comes to what ending is best. While EoE is supposed to be the true ending, I personally enjoyed both endings. I'm glad you're not letting people's opinions get in the way of you enjoying shows! NGE as a franchise gets plenty of love and plenty of hate. It's just how it's been for a long while and it's best to ignore that rabbit hole.
The rebuilds are essentially a remake of NGE in a movie format. Plenty of things cut, some things added, visuals changed up, etc. The first movie is somewhat similar to the original story, but during rebuilds 2 and 3 is when things begin to really change. Personally I wasn't much of a fan of them, but if you're curious you can finish watching them and see if you like them or not.
With that said if you need any good recommendations for things to watch after NGE this is definitely the place! If you're a fan of over-the-top mecha shows then you should watch Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. It was recommended to me when I first started watching anime and it has been my favorite show ever since. It might not be to your taste, but it's worth a try.

I appreciate the recommendation, but I've already seen TTGL. Forgot to mention that I watched NGE about 3 years ago, so I've been watching animated shows from the Japanese region for a fair amount now.
Although, if anyone here has any recomendations to shows similar to Claymore, which I'm currently watching and very much enjoying, I'd greatly appreciate those as well. I seem to be really bad at finding the sort of fantasy show I'm into (stuff like Berserk, Claymore of course, Seirei no Moribito), so any help from people who actually know what they're on about would be awesome.
