Thinking of one ending as the true ending isn't really the right way to approach TV vs EoE tbh. You should approach them as two sides of the same coin, with one delving heavily into Shinji's psyche (and the psyches of the others) and the other delving into what's going on around them.
There's certainly bits of EoE you can question, especially regarding whether they're intended primarily for story or shock, but overall I think it's a very good companion to the TV ending, which is the real meat of Evangelion's finale.
The Rebuilds, however, are marred by a massive variety of issues. They're really good fodder for the average viewer, but they're also a very different beast to the original show. Movie 1 already makes some changes, but 2 changes a lot more (not for the better) and 3 is...
Anno writing while snorting coke through a pitcher in a fanbase hating frenzy. It doesn't help that Anno has very plainly stated that his intentions with the Rebuilds are essentially to ruin Evangelion. The more you think about the Rebuilds, the worse they get, as you realize more and more things that were changed or outright removed, essentially pulling the framework of Evangelion out from under them.
Also, the Claymore anime is kind of bad. You should read the manga instead. I can't offer any recommendations otherwise though, at least not without racking my brain.
Yeah I was fully prepared to dive into the manga since I know it keeps going after the show. Are there really any big problems with it, like weird changes from the manga or is it purely because it's production isn't the greatest? Also considering I'm on episode 18 would you say it'd be better to just move right onto the manga or stick with it and then go read it?
If you're that far ahead you might as well finish it tbh, unless you find it becoming literally unwatchable. The anime's got a fair little bunch of problems, including skipping around and missing stuff out (especially near the end, as it pushes forward to catch the manga and tthen hits anime original) and just kinda being a mess in actual production. Madhouse tried but something just... went wrong. It's hard to explain. The anime covers about a third of the manga in total, but I'd probably suggest just reading that third again as well to see exactly how its handled vs the anime.
My housemate asked me if I had any good anime recommendations that were fantasy but had nothing to do with video games and I realised the number of shows I could think of could be counted on one hand. I know they exist and they're probably in my backlog.
Seirei no Moribito, Mushishi, Spice and Wolf, Juuni Kokuki, Berserk, Grimoire of Zero, Scrapped princess, Made In Abyss, Chaika, Garo anime s1. And I'm just counting what you would consider mostly traditional fantasy.
Tangentally based on or inspired by games but otherwise pure fantasy: Rage of Bahamut s1, Utawarerumono (video game adaptation) The Tower of Druaga (set as a sequel to an 80s arcade game), Grimgar (inspired by 16/32-bit RPGs)
If you broaden the genre you get Humanity Has Declined, Junketsu no Maria, Katanagatari, Kyousougiga, Dunbine, Escaflowne, Rokka no Yuusha, and so on.
You could also read the OP where the majority of these shows are listed. Even though we have Danmachi in there for some reason despite that show being fucking awful.
It wasn't really tickling my itch either, and I absolutely adore the manga.
I'll watch the next episode to see how well they can do Bloody Butterfly
I thought the first one was pretty good, but the rest is just... ehh.
First movie is just another recap movie and the rest just add another character that's entirely meaningless and annoying every time they appear, and when the story branches off it's fucking retarded in every way.
I get shit on for this, especially in the Discord, but I don't like NGE, at all. IMO NGE is up it's own ass, all style no substance. I prefer the Rebuilds because A) combined they're shorter than the whole series ATM B) they're in HD C) I find the story more interesting even if it is a bit confusing D) they jettison most of that bullshit symbolism that is only there because "it looks cool" E) Shinji isn't completely insufferable
I'm gonna be crucified for saying this but I've always felt that NGE has been placed on pedestal that is too high for it if that makes any sense. Did it have a big impact on the anime industry? Yes, but just because something is "important" doesn't mean it's this flawless diamond that some people trump it up as being. I guess what annoys me the most is people hailing it as the second coming of Jesus.
That said, so far it's the only show apart from a hentai where the MC jerks off into his hand, so Gold Star for Anno there I suppose. I'm sorry, but I despise Shinji as an MC in the main series and no argument on earth could change my opinion of him.
Still, I'm fully aware I'm in the minority with these opinions and obviously if it was complete trash it wouldn't receive all the praise it does. So yeah, that's all just my terrible opinion.
This is probably why I like them.
The anime plot ends before the manga starts to even attempt any kind of worldbuilding. It's been a few years but it's definitely a worthy read upon finishing watching the show. There are some sameface issues in the manga so I recommend keeping an eye out for haircuts to keep up.
Because obviously I personally don't think it is? The action is great i'll agree though.

Didn't say "I'm a chicken, so this is my coop", 0/10 worst anime of the decade.
I enjoyed NGE's manga the most out of everything they've got tbh. The TV and EoE have their own merits but in term of story-telling and overall quality the manga is definitely the best experience I've got.
For the rebuilds, Movie 1 is pretty nice, it's a recap and cut a lot of stuffs out, but got most of the basics down and the animation are great. Movie 2 introduced Mari which I honestly don't mind that much, she might feel out of place if you watched the originals but shes just another character if you haven't. The story continues from the last one but with some changes from the originals, it gets a little bit messy in the middle because they want to fit in too much and keep the mysterious atmosphere they've got so a lot of explanation and stuffs were cut. But it's still got some good fights and Shinji also stop being a wimp at the end. Then we get to Movie 3 which I don't even know what it's supposed to be
I expect it to be another half season of nothing but talking. But I'll watch it anyways.
wont get better than lizard sex
asobi asobase is incredible
First episode of Overlord season 3 was great, both the OP and the ED (what little we saw of it anyway) are amazing. Episode seemed filler as fuck, but was fun and funny all the same. Animation seems leagues better than the first two seasons for whatever reason.
Tsuredure Children have finally come to an end, from the web comic to the anime, it have been such an enjoyable experience.
I've always wondered what is the meaning of Tsurezure Children.
been watching Yamato 2022 on CR while i'm working out.
i'm enjoying it very much
The dub of Steins;Gate 0 has better sound design than the sub.
witch craft works is dumb and stupid and i love it
Man, I forgot how awesome the ending to Space Dandy was. It doesn't even need a continuation. I am going to miss the characters though.
rebuilds suck lol

I said a lot of this in my post a few days ago but here's a good, detailed breakdown of why FLCL Progressive is bad.
Oh cool now I don't have to promote my own shit
Guess we think along the same lines here.
Honestly, people who bitch about Shinji not being relatable tend to entirely ignore the whole psychological aspect of the show. It's like bitching that Madoka is garbage, because it's not just cute girls fighting spooky monsters. It's missing the point (although people who point out that those parts are a bit too heavy handed may have a point, and hence a worthy discussion).
Honestly, I like rebuilds for what they are - a sequel whose goal is to continue the tradition of confusion and to never release part 4.
Now I feel really smart for not even giving progressive the time of day, thanks for saving a couple of hours of my life
I'm glad it was helpful!
It was pretty much the most ambitious video I've ever tried to make, so I hope people at least like it enough that it boosts me high enough in the search ranks to outweigh the numerous people who decided to review the full series a month ago when only one episode was out.
