New Clarence Clarity album is great, some of the previously released tracks sound very different on the album too. Highly recommend it to anyone who's liked his stuff, and anyone who has no clue what I'm talking about.
i haven't dived into estrons' other stuff aside from "body" and their debut album which came out today (and it's excellent, gonna pick up a CD when i get the money to deal with UK shipping and such), also in regards to clarence clarity, this track bangs for those who have never heard of the man:

Yeah, I've been enjoying Estrons a lot lately. They talked about them on Who Charted a few weeks ago and played one of their tracks and I immediately went and listened to the rest.
the support was inter arma, as far as support acts go.. probably one of the best.

This album is fantastic, if you like the sound of this or heavy industrial in general, definitely give it a listen
Saw David Byrne at Austin City Limits last weekend, loved his set and it got me listening to his new album. It's got some pretty good bops on it.

Would definitely recommend it, the guy's still got it.
I've always been a sucker for sax in general, but the way Bowie always used it in particular always struck a chord with me. That song immediately made me pre-order the album thanks in part to his use of saxophone within it, and the same went for "Shit Mirror" off of Bad Witch from Nine Inch Nails.
So glad to hear the saxophone making a bit of a comeback here and there; it's long been quite possibly my favourite instrument, and it can add so much to already terrific songs if used tastefully.
I really like the closer on the album too, it's definitely one of the more interesting tracks. His performance of this song at ACL was one of the highlights.

I just saw NiN live for the first time and I'm so fucking happy right now

I wanna talk about mumble rap for a minute. Feel free to share your opinion. I'm not sure if it's been much discussed before.
Sometime ago, I watched this Youtube video, and it should work as the base for this.. shit.. of an opinion.
It's titled as "The Evolution of Mumble Rap" - it consists of cuts from both new- and old-school artists, music videos and interviews. Notably Snoop Dogg shares his criticism over mumble rap artists like Migos and Future. I don't listen to either of them, but that's beside the point..
Old-school rappers seem to have a hard-on for bashing modern "mumble" rappers, and for a seemingly evident reason like their over-the-top flexing, however I find them to be somewhat biased, kind of narrow-minded and taking it personally, for some reason. They are free to produce and distribute their own type of music, to whatever success or popularity it may bring them, no matter how short or long-lasting.
Not only that, but often times "mumble" rappers are criticized for slurred words and simplistic lyrics. Like as if all the old-school rappers themselves don't speak in a pretty heavy ghetto accent already. So I find them to be slightly full of shit. Old-school lyrics also often revolve around the very same themes (sexual, violence, drugs and w/e.) as these modern artists. At the end of the day, they are just words and lyrics, and they are used to express whatever the hell you want to express or want people to think you are expressing. See death metal artists as an example, it's full of violent and questionable themes but they are not meant to be taken seriously. It is different kind of "flexing" and it doesn't really hurt anyone.
Speaking of slurred words and questionable themes, do I even have to begin on most female pop-singers? I don't see as big of a fuss around them, even though there are a lot elasticated vowels slurred together with a penis in their mouth. And frankly, that's fine. It is their approach and style to singing, and that is fine.
SO! At the end of the day, while most of the new-school hip-hip artists are definitely some crazy-ass niggas, I don't hold it against them. Go nuts and go dumb.
Music, like all things, evolves. Whether one views this as good or bad development, or even pulls out the "think of the children" card, then I would argue it doesn't matter - it's not something you can control anyway. They are not running for president either.
Personally, I listen to both old- and new-school hip-hop music, darker and chiller electronic/house music, and some very select few mainstream tracks that I find myself liking (and/or in the preference of any female company that I may have around). Basically, anything that sounds good to me, will probably get added to my playlist.
Here's some mumble rap by LUV that I've managed to harvest through all the nutty shit he likes to produce. Neon Guts and Bag - you're very hard pressed to find a better version of this track on YouTube.
Enjoy and have a great day.
Those guys are comparing apples to oranges, and each little niche of rap has its own appeal right? I always hear people say, "stay in your lane". They should follow their own damn advice. I feel like a lot of the old heads just don't wanna move on. I don't go listen to Lupe or Mos Def for club bangers. I'm GLAD we have mumble rap, it's just another extension of the genre, there's nothing wrong with using your voice as another layer to an instrumental, it's an evolution of the sound. Yung Lean really exemplifies it, his early shit was just nonsensical but there was just something spectacular about how him and Yung Gud could make a mesmerizing track with his droning voice.
Was wondering when that would happen
