fontaines dc's first album comes out next week, keep an ear out for it. most of the songs are already released and it sounds like its gonna be a contender for album of the year for me already. big ian curtis vibes from the singer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgLdy56ylzk
Has anyone listened to the new Unkle album, the Road part 2? I just cannot really get into their last few projects to be honest despite holding Unkle really close to my heart. Psyence Fiction and War Stories are one of my favorite albums ever. But their recent collaborations were rather medicore, it just lacks that kind of magic that hold so dearly. That said the song Ar.mour is pretty fucking neat.
put together an "extended" tracklist for Show Me the Body's Dog Whistle with the two Challenge Coin EP tracks "K-9" and "Talk". if anyone wants to give it a listen feel free, i think it flows pretty well together tbh. bulks the album up a little bit and gives these suckers a home Camp Orchestra Not For Love Talk Animal In A Dream Badge Grabber K-9 Drought Forks and Knives Now I Know Madonna Rocket Arcanum Die for the Earth to Live USA Lullaby

any thoughts on crash talk by schoolboy? i really wanna like it because it's schoolboy but man it's so hit and miss. maybe like 4 or 5 songs at a push stick. really disappointing.
new vampire weekend album is out. i haven't fully listened to it yet but i've just flicked through some of the songs and it sounds like its going to be fucking great.
When the Chopstix single dropped, I got really worried. It's pretty damn underwhelming as an album. It also really bothers me on how on a bunch of tracks Q's vocals sound like he recorded them in a closet, they're really muffled. Drunk, 5200 (The worst offender), Black Folk. (Also why I barely listen to 4:44, what the fuck Jay) But anyways, the standout tracks for me were Black Folk, Dangerous and Crash. Chopstix & Lies sound like generic pop rap radio singles, Travis really does absolutely nothing for this song. I don't really get what Q's going for here, he can make good hits, just look at Man of The Year. Instead we got some lifeless trite track. Other tracks like Float, Numb Numb Juice try to go for a darker low end style with the instrumentals but just end up being boring. The Numb Numb Juice being a repetitive 'yeah I'm back, blaa blaa blaa' bravado track. Same thing happens with Floating. 21 in my opinion, really sucks on minimalist style beats because his voice is monotonous as it is and doesn't really add any vocal layering to the track. The hook is wack. Now Dangerous, Dangerous does the moody atmosphere really damn well. Cudi's harmonics go well with the guitar lead in that turns into a groovy distortion, the track builds up gently from a dreamy drug induced state into the musical equivalent of an anxiety attack with the screaming synths and sub bass, I assume this is him sobering up from his drug binge. Feels like an excerpt of a Rap version of The Downward Spiral, shame it's so short, but that makes it all the better. Crash with the backing sample feels like a classic Q song and it really carries the song, smooth drum pattern, break ups with the sfx in the background. It's simple, and that keeps it good, you can focus on Q's rapping and he brings some strong flow, a catchy hook that isn't obnoxious and some content to it. Black Folk is a nice laid back track yet brings in upbeat synths in juxtaposition with what Q's rapping about.
I dunno if it's just me, but has this year been crazy slow for music or what? Easily my favourite release so far is "You're The Man" by Marvin Gaye, and that was a posthumous release of a buried album. It's a terrific album, but it's bizarre to me that I can't think of any other, new, releases that I've loved.
theres been heaps of new albums that have come out so far that i've liked and even more coming in the next few weeks.
I guess I just need to branch out and search for some new artists or something again, finally. Virtually none of my main favs have released anything in what feels like ages, and the other artists I follow closely have just been releasing endless singles, with no album in sight; it's maddeningggg
