You have no idea how much I missed the just... -regular- world from 2005 ish. Where The Doctor would have an adventure and there'd be a regular cast involved popping in and out of episodes, it was a lot more grounded and while they went on wacky adventures, there was a place to come home to. And that's why the 'bigger' episodes were such a big deal, as it threatened to change the status quo. But from Moffat's perspective, apparently having a status quo at all was bad?
I think it can be pulled off, if it's written well. I think Season 5 is a good example of this; season 6 onward got waay too convoluted to work.
I dunno. I really like Series 5. But one thing that I thought was really promising about The Eleventh Hour was I expected Leadworth to be the new "base" as it were. A quaint setting with all these fun little characters that knew Amy and Rory. But beyond the glimpses of Amy's house in future episodes we never went back or saw any of them again and I thought that was a shame. Even in Amy's Choice it was replaced with "Upper-Leadworth." Guess they couldn't quite as readily take over an entire village for filming on a regular basis, so fair enough Don't think it was ever explicitly stated where Amy and Rory's house was later on.
My breaking point was in I think Capaldi's second season. The moon exploded, the world got covered in trees, there was a T-Rex running around in London and a giant alien invasion every other week and a whole bunch of other bullshit happened on a weekly basis and it never seemed to leave a lasting impact. When Clara looked out a window, saw a massive UFO (or heard it on the news or something) over a city, made a bad how-do-you-do-fellow-kids one-liner involving Twitter, and then drove off on a motorbike to where UNIT immediately began practically worshipping her for being a companion, I just stopped the episode and walked away. You can't have a big event every week and act like it's still important after the twentieth time.
The Power of Three had a lot of problems but I was really excited when I thought they were going back to RTD-style home base stuff with family members and everything. Turned out to just be a one-off
and to be fair on the power of three's ending it has been widely said on numerous forums as an "inside secret" that steven berkoff (who plays the villain) was so awful to work with on set that they essentially had to cut him out of the episode last minute, meaning the ending was just gone and had to be turned into "the doctor sonics stuff and it all works out" - not chibnall's fault at all not that I'd know anything about it of course
Just going to drop this here, even if this is from a few months old BF release. https://soundcloud.com/robert-t-harvey/second-doctor-volume-2-trailer-music This music track is fucking amazing, and the trailer it's set to isn't bad at all either: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkdz8aS2_To

Billboards and posters popping up here and in the US.
They played the trailer first thing after the Strictly results show last night. Soon!
no please i'm really sick of two parters and season long arcs that turn out to be a wet-fart. just give me fun, slightly to moderately campy, sci-fi stories that take place anywhere at at anytime. more victorians on mars, more space titanic, more a town called mercy, more cold war, less monks. less silence. i just caught up with the latter half of series 9, and then series 10 and series 10 was my favorite in a while. I mean I've loved Capaldi a lot but he was wasted at points. I got fatigued by all the two-parters and wet-farts for big season long ~mysteries~. Series 10 had a bunch of really great stand alone episodes, and I really liked the finale and then Christmas special. Weakest by far was the monk arc, but at least the first episode of it was so good. bring on 13.
I fully agree but I think you misunderstood my point. Because what you’re saying is exactly how I feel. I don’t want two partners or intensive series arcs either. The show is at its weakest then. I’m glad they’ve said both won’t be present. Arcs and two parters are ways to extend Monster of The a Week and create an illusion of continuation. When in reality it’s a stand alone story padded out OR a stand alone story with another writer forcing a random line of dialogue in. I want the series to feel modern. I want character development. I want consequences. Like any other modern drama. The current style of Story-arcs and two-parters are TV of yesteryear. Monster of the week is Scooby Doo. Look at all the Sci-fi and fantasy TV out there, most of it is stand alone stuff. But none of it is monster of the week. My point is I want writers to be more inventive and creative Not just picking a monster and writing a story round it. 100% not what the show has been doing for over 10 years now because it worked once in 2005. I’m sick of dead, injured or traumatised characters being over it within minutes.

I was so excited about watching doctor who today... then I realised it was on tomorrow, why's it on a sunday now?
Is it still against forum rules to ask for a Livestream of the first episode tonight? I'm in Germany til December and I've not been able to find a VPN that works with the iPlayer.
I can help you with that, but I don't know if I'm allowed to do so here
I've been wondering to, would love to know!
Happy Who Day!! See you all at 7:45 to complain about how bad the episode was and cry about how much we want Moffat back!!
So I'll take the risk. Personally, I'll watch it live on the IPlayer with My Expat Network VPN. It works fine BUT it is not free (although it is only 5€ a month). And once you subscribe to it, you have the possibility of a refund within a month
It air at the same time as the American airing here, so I'll get to watch it "Live" Well, not this week since I'll be out, but the following weeks.
Email me here: f4095480@nwytg.net (10 minute mail cos I'm not putting my email on a public forum lol)
Nevermind, I posted what I was gonna tell you
