Not sure I liked the bit where the villain explained who they were and what they were doing halfway through the episode or the bit where the doctor literally states reasons why this season can work with a new female doctor But I don't think that Doctor Who's ever looked this good. It's a nice start.
12 was more blatant with it's I'm still the Doctor!thing but but if you don't like that sort of moment to begin with...
I thought it was great, so glad I kept away from all the promos so it actually was a shock whenhis 'nan dies I liked how Jodie's entrance was just so unceremonious *thwomp* although I agree with them mixing in the main theme being a bit cheesy (although it was only for a couple of seconds) I was kinda amazed how quick she just felt like the Doctor, maybe the tone shift and all the changes I knew were going on in the background helped smooth that as just another new thing for the series The only couple of downsides were from the fast pace skipping over a couple of things that probably could have used at least a line or two about(How she suddenly changes beanie-guys phone into a super-science tracker, how she managed to make a sonic swiss-knife out of garage parts) All in all though I can say I liked this a hell of a lot more than the last two New-Doc episodes
when did this happen

I can't believe Moffatt is fucking dead
Oh, I must have missed her taking the stuff from the pod
or the bit where the doctor literally states reasons why this season can work with a new female doctor
Right when she's explaining to Tim Shaw who she is. I'd post the lines but the transcript guy hasn't done it yet
Apparently more girls under 16 watched than boys last night. Double the amount compared to The Pilot.
"Bit of adrenaline, dash of outrage and a hint of panic" or "I'm the Doctor sorting out fair play throughout the universe" Either way, I think you are reaching a bit mate. I mean I can see it, but as someone who was actively listening out for something like you said the second time round, it didn't sound like it at all. Adrenaline as in, you know how the Doctor always is, outrage, as in the idea of the Doctor being an Alien, and Aliens being a thing to the characters, Panic, as in the realisation that the Doctor has no clue what she is doing most of the time and that the Alien may be extremely deadly to the humans.
Those ratings must be toward the top end of what anyone could have hoped for. Have to see how they hold for the rest of the series.
Big numbers for a first episode is all well and good, it's view retention that's the big ticket though. Still it'll lay to rest anyone who said or continues to say that "a female Doctor is too far, everyone will ditch the show!"
Not those lines (they are good.) Talking about the lines just before that where she talks about 'staying true to herself' or something
But the Doctor has always said that....
It's gonna be rather depressing to watch how much this drops throughout the rest of the series but that's amazing.
The last great time war and it's subsequent plotlines pretty much ended when the 11th Doctor and every Doctor up till the 13th came to help save Gallifrey from destruction (and then later on in the Capaldi's era fucked it up by making himself an enemy of Gallifrey again just to save fucking Clara Oswald), it was pretty much finished at that point.
Biggest plot hole in this episode was that Ryan could at any time have revoked his acceptance of the hunting ritual under GDPR and then sued Tim Shaw for misusing his data. Shit episode, fire Chibnall now
What about the 12th Doctor getting to Gallifrey with the confession dial? I'm still unsure about if that mean's the planets back or something.
yeah Gallifrey is back, they are just hiding because they are afraid of the rest of the universe getting pissed off at them in their weakened state.
I'm quite surprised by the fan reaction, I thought there would be a lot more people unhappy with the changes but it really seems like the vast majority of fans are mostly happy
I think my biggest complaint about 13 is that she's too honest. That doesn't really scream 'The Doctor' to me.
Eh, I found the First Doctor to be honest, so it seems in character for me.
I didn't like the episode, but it may have been the constant jumps to commercial BBCA did. There was something with the way it was edited though that it felt like I was seeing just parts of scenes and not whole scenes. No issue with the acting though, and I thought Jodie did a fantastic job.... Also who the fuck bikes on top of a fucking cliff when they can't ride a bike and constantly fall over?
Well, that's a ridiculous argument. You've posted in this thread long enough, you've watched this show for gods knows how long. How have you missed the whole point of The Doctor being different with every regeneration?
It feels refreshing to see that this new director is not afraid of having characters die. Moffat always tried to retcon deaths of characters which were more than just side characters. Jodie Whittaker instantly feels like the Doctor, it makes me really sad to see that the official pages are still full of manchildren complaining about the casting choice.
I feel like that "Starring..." cast call at the end was meant to be a hype moment but I feel like someone who isn't into video games seeing a Smash Bros trailer.
Got a laugh at the idea of Lee Mack being in Doctor Who but I didn't know anyone else except for Alan Cumming.
It's not an argument, it's my opinion. And yes, the Doctor changes personality with every regeneration, but there are always a few constants. I.e, a reluctance to divulge any personal information or to talk about family/the past. There's always been some sort of personal (some might say professional) detachment from the events happening around him/her. 13 saying that she carries her family around inside her just seems off to me. It doesn't seem like something ANY of the Doctors would say. Another thing I thought was weird was her sticking around for the funeral, even attending it. This is a nitpicky thing I guess but funerals take weeks to organise, why was she still in 12's clothes then? Just seems like a glaring hole in the whole thing to me.
The "Starring" bit at the end of the episode felt like a reference to the ending sequence to the 'Time Meddler" Where it had a head-shot the Doctor and each of his companions looking off camera enigmatically (incidentally this ending style was never used outside that story). So it is either a reference to that, or it is Chibnall in essence saying that the show is going to be putting performance and actors over the wizz bang pop that is usually the focus of modern Doctor Who, or it is just in essence saying "Look We've shown you like, five trailers for what is coming up this series, at this point we show you any more you'll have seen the the whole series so here is some nonspoilery footage of our guest stars".
