just use your index finger to press down the 4th fret, also touching the d string, muting it. notes in parentheses are ghost notes, you either don't play them or play them quieter than the other notes around it. can be hard to get used to when they are in chords but greatly increases the voice of the chord.
Ahh new thread smell. Been working with a metronome a lot more and going over some old strumming patterns with them. Feeling pretty confident I'm starting to tap my foot in beat while strumming. only problem is that I still can't quite line up my foot and metronome if I'm doing anything more involved. Guess it's just going to be one of those things I'll have to keep working on.
https://youtu.be/syqJAgTQdlU This song inspired me to pick up the bass again with renewed motivation. God damn it's groovy.
Me and my partner spontaneously ended up spending our night off customising his Epiphone acoustic guitar with the MANY stickers that he possesses. The end result looks better than we originally thought! https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/240100/e6b54dbb-4680-4f5a-913d-f972ebd95518/IMG_20180627_225006.jpg
Oh man it's beautiful. Been wanting to get a strat for a while but most of them look so boring, I really like this one though but it's probably more than I wanted to spend. It's also available in plainer colours like this which is exactly the same as far as I can tell, but £150 cheaper. Ahhh. So this "player series" is replacing the mexican standard from what I've heard? Seems like fender just wanted an excuse to up the price but still seems pretty good.
That tidepool colour is classy
Yeah it's definitely the nicest basic colour one I've seen. Still think I am leaning towards the Cherry Burst one though.
Awww man I gave in and bought the Cherry Burst one and it's here and- https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/238364/ac57aa18-8026-4221-bdda-786e3485881b/image.png Oh... th-thanks Fender. I'm assuming it's a defect more than damage as the box seems to be fine, how the fuck they would miss this on any qc though? Emailed site I bought it from, lets hope they don't fuck me around...
best thing to do with that would be ask for a partial refund if the rest of the guitar is in decent condition, and just get it repaired at a local music shop if you can. maybe even just upgrade them to Grovers or Schallers or something (can vouch for Schallers, very nice stuff)
Yeah I guess that's an idea. I guess I'll see what they have to say. I'd probably prefer a straight replacement but I don't know if they have any others in stock anyway. To be honest, looking more closely it might be easy to fix for someone who knows what they're doing, but I'd rather just let andertons worry about that.
Well at least the solution is easy enough, though it is a shame that you have to wait longer for your guitar now. Did they offer you a partial refund or did they just immediately hold their hands up and say they'd send out a replacement to you?
Nah they just immediately said they'd send out a new one. I wouldn't really expect any refund unless it was their fault and it caused me a lot more difficulty.
Hi everyone, I'd like to ask for advices on what I want to do. I own an Ibanez GRG170DXL (left handed - specs here) since around 2010 (I was 13 then, understand I don't remember details). I own another guitar, but I'm really attached to this Ibanez since it's my first electric guitar. The thing is, it has aged badly (in my opinion) due to the lack of maintenance on my end (I have no idea on how to keep a guitare fresh except for changing the strings). I've been thinking for a while about customizing it, or at least put it back in a good state. And yes I want to do it myself, if you think it's a bad idea please tell me what I can, should, and shouldn't do. I look for advice because I don't have any kind of experience or knowledge about that (never been a manual guy neither) Here are some of the top things that I'm troubled with /worried about /interested in : (you can find all the pictures here) As you can see here and here, my bridge is completely blocked against the body (since 2011), long story short, a professional told me he blocked it because there was a problem he couldn't solve in the 5 minutes before I'd go on stage. How can I find out what the problem is, unblock the bridge and repair it ? (here is a picture of the back that I uncovered for the first time, if it helps) Here I have the wammy bar, it has never been on the guitar. How can I put it on (if the previous point is solved) ? Here are the controls. These have really really aged. What is more visible here is the mic switch state. Is it possible to change those ? Here is the back view. Here is a broken part of the body. The black stuff is covering the entirety of the body. I think removing it is out of question. What kind of customization is available to me apart from putting stickers everywhere (as you can see I did put one to cover the broken part) Finally, here are the mechanics of the guitar. They seem fine to me, do they need any particular attention, should I change them ? Thanks in advance for your time, I understand I'm probably asking a lot.
if the guitar still sounds good i dont see the problem. all of my guitars are piles of chip wood and rust.
Well for a €150 guitar, the sound is okay. The real problems are: The locked bridge A permanent "blank sound" as soon as it's plugged to the amp (this does not happen with my other guitar)
Not sure how to help with the locked bridge, but what do you mean by "blank sound"? An old set of strings could be causing that
Yeah old strings or ernie ball strings will sound dead, get yourself some daddario stringd if your guitar sounds lifeless. As for the trem it doesnt look blocked (judging by the inside picture) does the trem system have a lock built in? Usually if its blocked there would be something wedged in there. A quick google has led me to believe you can adjust 2 pins in it with an allen key. Loosen the strings and play around with that to see if you can get the trem to float. The whammy bar should be easy enough to install.
thinking of bumping up the gauge on my squier strat from 9-42's to 10-52's, think that's a big enough jump to consider getting the thing re-setup at a shop?
That kind of sound, except the other guitar and the unplugged amp do not produce it. I got a set of strings ready to put on, I was waiting for advices. The "pins", are you talking about the thinks inside the body or the things locking the bridge on the front of the guitar ?
Thats okay, should be floating a lil off the body but as lomg as its staying in tune and you can bend the pitch its fine. I personally prefer my whammy to be set up for half step bends cos i like it for shimmering vibrato rather than heavy vibrato or dive bombs.
god i finally feel comfortable improvising over swing. Even just 2-5-1's have always been a particular challenge for me just because i havent really been able to really "hear" the chords and play lines that complement them at the same time. Trying to absolutely emphasize chord tones in my improvisation has honestly changed the way I play. It was one of those things where people would always give me tips about, but I never really ever internalized it. Now it just seems intuitive and my playing has really grown because of it
answered my own question by putting on the 10-52's and found i just had to tighten the bridge springs, thing sounds golden now
This is what happens when you raise my credit limit. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/752/96e4fd8a-f127-468b-8e8a-ed3b385d7214/IMG_20180805_123310646.jpg
wow that looks super nice, man. I love the finish and neck binding
i've had this fender sonoran (acoustic spruce top with a strat headstock) for a few years. wasn't big on the tone of it initially but with new strings it sounds really nice. shout outs to fender for this guitar though because the intonation is fucking perfect. at the 12th fret all the strings are only 1-2 cents sharp. i've never had a guitar, even properly set up, that is that accurate.
im thinking of buying one of those headless chinese budget guitars they are selling on ebay for shits and giggles they are just so damn CHEAP and they look like lots of fun any1 have any experience with these?
specifically this one Fanned Frets Headless guitar with Tremolo bridge Flame maple Nec..
So I'm trying to imitate Simon Gallup's bass tone from The Cure, but it doesn't quite sound right. Am I missing something? https://clyp.it/zosi0xh0 I have the general 'growl' of the bass, but I feel like it's still..wrong.
i want to study paly the guitar
