I got a Yamaha Transacoustic a few months ago. Plays like a dream. Motivated me to start practicing again. Also finally got a proper mic and headphone set up so I can work with Cubase. Feeling pretty good. This summer I spent really practicing has improved my skills so much. I can keep beat well again, and my ear is developing. I managed to figure out the first 10 seconds of From the Beginning from ELP in about 30 minutes, and the other ear exercises I'm doing are getting better results as well. I don't know if English is your first language but I can try and recommend justinguitar.com
i hate it when youre trying to figure out a solo. even when you slow it right down you just can't place a note. its a single fucking note it shouldnt be that hard to figure out.
I'm considering getting my bass setup for lower tunings like D Standard but I'm just afraid that it'll push me to get a second bass just to play the songs that are in standard tuning
Thoughts and opinions on the Yamaha sgv 800 anyone?
Welcome to the wonderful world of playing guitar, you're going to be poor for life
Does anyone have any good resources to teach myself scales and improvising using scales?
Ive been practicing with elevated jam tracks. https://youtu.be/2hKf9qIkxbA Scales become easier when you learn where all the notes are across the fretboard because a scale is like 7 notes.
Could always use a capo I suppose
Rookie question: On bass, is it better to play Eb Standard and Drop D on an E Standard setup or D Standard setup without making truss rod adjustment or fucking up the intonation?
I played Eb standard and drop D on an E standard setup for years. To be honest with that small a shift in tuning there's no noticeable difference, at least to me anyway. If you're going lower you'd need to do more of a setup, but I've always set my basses for E standard and gone between E, Eb, drop D and D standard with no issues
hipster tuning is f standard
We used Eb because our singer couldn't hit higher notes in E standard, Eb was enough of a drop that he wasn't going to over stress his voice trying to hit the right notes.
Alright I'm back with another questione regarding the strings. I'm about to join a band that usually switches between C# standard and D standard and since I was about to take the bass to the shop for a setup and new strings anyway, I guess I'll have to switch to heavier strings now. Right now I'm rocking a 40-105 Infeld so should I get them replaced with one of these? https://www.mydukkan.com/urunler_detay.asp?id=19862&gid=209&oid=29169 https://www.mydukkan.com/urunler_detay.asp?id=8832&gid=209&oid=12968
I used to be in a band that played drop C# and I used 45-100 from various brands. They were a tad floppy but still very playable. I used to always get Fender bass strings which I can't get locally any more (I'm not sure if they're even made now to be honest), but I'm sure they were made by D'Addario, and that's the brand I stick to now (other than my acoustic and when I was playing C# standard tuned death metal, I could only get the gauge I needed in Ernie Ball locally). So I'd say the D'Addario 50-105, because I personally like the brand
I figure you guys would appreciate this https://i.imgur.com/ZeiUhna.jpg
mateus asato has become my new favourite guitarist. i fucking love his technique, those quick slides from one note back to the other. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWUZrkq6sWc
new fender alternate reality guitars coming out this year. really good looking guitars. hope i get a well paying job this year. the sixty six and electric 12 look fantastic.
I'm pretty psyched for the new Chon and Polyphia artists guitars.
Whered all my guitar dudes go????
I got a JC-40 recently and it sounds amazing, I get that the distortion might not be tube-tone but it adds interesting character to my tone. Sounds best with my Jazzmaster, but I'm having a pain and a half trying to mic the chorus.
i was cleaning off my recorder and i found a song with a single guitar track with this washed out tone doing some finger tapping thing, but it sounded like there was more than one guitar cos it also had these drones going on. i put some more droning over the top of it and the original track sorta got lost in the mix https://soundcloud.com/patrick-bolter/drone-shriek
found out that my dads old electric turned out to be a vintage "top twenty" guitar from Japan. It plays really nice but I had no idea what make it was because the logo and markings had been removed. Nice to learn a bit more about it! Also got to play a yamaha sgv 800 recently and it was delicious.
has anyone ever had to refret a guitar? my telecaster that i've had for about 6 years has some significant dents in the frets and i'm not sure what the best course of action is.
try getting the frets recrowned first. it's a lot more straightforward and a lot cheaper to get done than a refret. if it's not been done before, chances are you should be able to get them crowned again. stick it to a tech and see what they say though
Is there any decent Taylor's for sale below $900? I've been trying to find a good priced one since my Ibanez started sounding funky.
I really want to get into the world of 5 string bass. Tune the bad boy to drop A for some extra range and a nice new range of tone. I'd also like to be able to play a lot of pop stuff which for some reason tends to have a lot of work done lower than standard E. Harley Benton have a rad 5 string P/J bass which is right up my street, I'm far more into passive stuff than active, and a lot of 5 strings tend to be active, which I can understand, but it just isn't for me. I mean come on, look at this saucy bastard https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/221276/9d3e26ea-d713-438e-b02d-c76b44b5ce84/13237806_800.jpg The only 5 string I ever played so far that I really enjoyed playing was a Spector, and I sure as shit don't have enough money for one of those lel
was trying to figure out roller queen by jimmy eat world, the little harmonic thing led me to discover the song is in open e. theres another song i've spent time figuring out to never want to play it again.
oddly enough, I had the exact same thing happen with Jungle Love by the Steve Miller Band. I don't think I've heard any other songs that use that tuning but it actually sounds really cool - very resonant, great for weird chord progressions, but it's also nice and tight.
I managed to sell off my acoustic which I never played, now I'm torn between getting a 5 string bass (I already have 3 4 strings) and another guitar, since I only have one 6 string and it's pretty heavy metal being a Kramer Baretta with a Dimebucker and various heavy metal stickers. I'm fond of strats and teles, and wouldn't mind building/modding another guitar into my own kind of instrument. Harley Benton/Thomann seem to be modernizing and updating again so I'm considering something by them to extend my sonic range since my Kramer is now in D standard thanks to my recent interest in Motley Crue
i have one of those $50 target strats, gave it a basic set up and its my main guitar now. plan to upgrade it when i have some spare cash. if you want a strat or a tele you can get a squier, just make sure you play with it before you buy it. you can always fix up a guitar that isn't set up but you can't fix a lifeless guitar. modding a guitar can end up being more expensive than buying a mexican standard so unless you're doing it for the fun of modding the guitar i'd recommend just buying a mexican strat.
