I don't see them doing that at all.
As a reflexive "I'm in Hollywood, I must say everything is roses" response, the artists on the show say Star Trek is great, though as soon as they start describing it, it's almost always in the negative. "At first I was like, 'Star Trek, sci-fi, hmm, I don’t know.'" "You can never go back to TOS." "The Enterprise really, before the movies, is a bunch of cardboard sets." "we can give you more advanced technology than you have in your living room, or I think you would be kind of bored." “Back in TOS days, they just slapped a [Mirror Universe] logo on the wall. We take that much further. We put the logo on the visual effects on the ship and on the floor of the different sets. Then, in terms of lighting, we added a lot of mirrored surfaces in the Discovery and in every other chance we got.” This last one really gets me, "Oh TOS put it on a wall like cavemen, but we put it on the floor." Sorry guys, I didn't even notice most of the changes you made, what actually ran through my head when I first saw those episodes was, "The ship doesn't feel as Mirror Universe-y as the 1701 and NX-01 did." On your second point, I'm not expecting the original sets, costumes, and props. I understand that Discovery is an artistic reboot. They can say, "This is a dark, new take on Star Trek." all they want, but things like the soundscape and costumes are very kitschy in comparison to the rest of the production design. There isn't a solid artistic vision unifying everything, and causes the different elements of the show to clash with themselves.
You're overreacting.
I can see somebody tripping over the steps on the bridge if they're not careful. What happened to TNG's ramps?
The show takes place before TNG, so they haven't been invented yet.
Thank fuck someone is finally turning the lights on
The lights were on in Season 1.
It's called a joke, also that was really one of the few "bright" rooms, and even then, the lighting is so weird that it still feels "dark"
Looks realistic to me.
You can't disagree with me that the lighting is shitty as fuck, and is 90% lighting up walls and nothing else.
I don't see anything wrong with the lighting.
Tuskin, you seem to find very little wrong with the clusterfuck that was Season 1.
Watching season 1 back-to-back, I did notice the lighting subtley evolve towards the end. It's the most apparent in corridor scenes. I do think there's a time of day thing going on with the lighting of the ship, but overall everything has become softer. Episode 3 Episode 6 Episode 15
Reminds me of Star Trek Generations, where for some reason they decided to light everything on the bridge with the Star.
They needed shadows to hide the power cables. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/247500/13474ed7-1615-4f83-a4e8-620b00285b35/image.png (Look under the captain's chair.)
I miss the flying marriot suite convention center. I mean TNG had the gall to stick to that look all throughout even as ds9 and voyager ran away from it. discovery just seems like what they wanted to do with voyager but couldn't, its got the dark lighting, the weird aliens, the convoluted plot.

I swear I almost thought the guy in the back was Brent Spiner for a second.
CBS has C&D'ed the Stage 9 project From TrekBBS: Okey, we can finally talk about this... On Wednesday 12th Sep we received a Cease and Desist from CBS requiring us to cease development. We made every effort to approach them to discuss modifying the project to meet their criteria, but they are refusing to even discuss the matter. We'll be making a longer statement on Discord shortly. We hope you enjoyed Stage 9 while it lasted! From all the team, Live long and prosper.
What a bunch of fucking bullshit.
