I would've liked to think that Holland-Man was just one of many spider-people - an incarnation where being Stark's apprentice sets him apart from the rest, and that either the Sony-verse (Venom) or Spider-Verse would introduce an authentic, real Spider-Man - one that stays faithful to the comic's lore. But nah - I'm supposed to believe this is the Peter Parker now, and that's disappointing to say the least.
So because Holland is the current Hollywood spidey he overwrites the original lore and magically becomes the de facto real Spider Man arch model in your mind? Give it a rest already dude, Holland is MCU spiderman and that's it. Nothing so far has hinted at a Sony-verse splintering.
There's only one Marvel Cinematic Universe. Secondary only to the comics it's the largest and most credible medium that has a massive influence on the characters. If there's only a single current instance of a character it makes sense for it to reflect the origin material as much as possible, tweaks where necessary. Then again the MCU is very Avengers-focused by nature, so while I kind of get the Stark influence it just makes the MCU more like "just another continuity", but that's just me.
They don't need to stay Faithful.
Wow many times must we attempt "the" Peter Parker? We already had classic Peter in, well, the comics. Then a few dozen re-tellings. Then cartoons. Then the Raimi films which were VERY comic book-esque, even if not accurate in every way (i.e. ultra dorky nerd Parker, as opposed to average kid who's introverted). While 3 is kind of embarrassing, 2 is one of the best superhero blockbusters of all time, and legit the best at encapsulating the essence of Spider-Man's motivation to heroism. Then TASM 1 and 2, a corporate shitfest in every way. The budget makes for some alright eye candy, though, as far as the fight scenes are concerned. And now Homecoming. Frankly it's a breath of fresh air. I love the original interpretation of Spider-Man, but I love chocolate too, and it tastes a lot better if you don't eat it every chance you get If everyone got a Spidey that's 100% accurate to the way they want him, we'd have a project a day for the next couple of centuries. And frankly that's pretty much what we're getting regardless, because he's such a massive fucking character with that said: I'm gonna undermine my own point and say the spark that's missing from MCU Spider-Man is an issue of accuracy lol As a kid, the most terrifying thing - yes, terrifying - about Spider-Man was the fact he was alone. It's a defining characteristic that he has no one to turn to, and as such, no one to help him or recognize his deeds. It elevates the stakes and the heroics, and if the Marvel team did not understand this on some level, they wouldn't have had that rubble scene in Homecoming where Peter calls out but no one's there to hear him. I hope they come up with some dumb reason for Spider-man to lose contact with SHIELD 20 minutes into the movie
Hopefully they can incorporate that plotline where Parker slowly mutates into a disgusting spider beast for some lonely Holland. I don't see it happening though :/
I've been wanting that on film for a while, but without the actual viewing of Parker getting bit by the spider or the facility where it was, I doubt they'll go this way in the MCU.
Absolutely this. MCU Peter has the potential to be great, but as of now he just feels like the comics version of Miles, who is really just a more boring take on the comics version of Peter. So it's like Peter Parker twice dilluted, while Spider-Verse gets TWO really interesting characterizations of Spider-Man at the forefront. Holland has the potential to be the best cinematic Peter Parker of all time, but not until they drop the whole "oh jeez Mr. Stark good thing I've got all these friends and family and fellow superheroes who are always on my side" thing. Spider-Man is a fantastic character for drama (the Raimi movies exhibit this really well), but that's all but completely untapped with the MCU take on the character. He's had maybe two legitimately dark/sad dramatic moments, one of which being his death. Spider-Man is supposed to be up there with the Hulk in terms of "superheroes you DON'T want to be", but Holland's take on the character has it too good. He lives in a nice apartment with his hot aunt and he has enough money to go to Europe and he's enrolled in a genius school and he has lots of friends and everyone loves Spider-Man and he's become a card-carrying Avenger before he's even gotten his learner's permit. His best friend and aunt know his secret and they're super supportive and yeah he missed out on some things because he had to go be Spider-Man, but everyone immediately forgives him. I don't want to keep comparing him to Tugboat, but at least the Raimi movies threw some real shit at Peter Parker. His aunt was old and sickly, he lived in a shithole apartment he could barely make rent on, half the city hated him thanks to Jameson smearing his name in the Bugle, his relationships with Harry and MJ were made infinitely more difficult due to the challenges of his double-life, and people around him were constantly turning evil, turning against him, or dying because he was Spider-Man. I'm not saying they need to go full Slott and just have Peter suffer infinitely, but Spider-Man needs adversity from those around him. Iron Man is a charismatic, billionaire playboy in a shiny robot suit he made himself, but Spider-Man is a lanky weirdo who skitters around in a form-fitting zentai shooting webs out of his wrist while screaming knock-knock jokes. Everyone knows who Captain America is, but Spider-Man will hang you from a lamppost and call you names if you try to take his mask off. We the audience love him because he's cool and funny and has to deal with more than someone his age should have to (which is a really relatable feeling), but the characters in-universe should feel totally justified in thinking he's a bizarre menace, assuming they read the Bugle.
Bring back Hammer Tech and give it a biological division to justfify the spiders
Season 2 of punisher is out btw. Boy I still do not give a single fuck about madahni.
I like the Holland Spider-Man, but I also recognize it's not what I consider The Peter Parker. That's entirely subjective, though, and I am looking forward to seeing Peter grow up with Holland. Someday he'll be that adult Spider-Man I'm looking for, hopefully. Or the Sony-Marvel deal will end and they'll go back to rebooting him shittily as a teenager a dozen more times.
You know that Disney is not particularly happy with how Sony handled the spoiler situation or jammed the relase date tight after endgame right? They expect Endgame to be one of their biggest films of all time and Sony literally jumped on camera with IMMALETYOUFINISHBUTPETERPARRKERRROFALLTIMEYALLOFALLTIME without Disney's approval or knowledge. Disney wanted at least 6 months between movies.
The Punisher season 2 is really not good so far. Five episodes in and it feels like the longest season of any Marvel show to date. Everyone's intentions are all over the place and the story has zero momentum. The acting is inconsistent, leaning towards bad most of the time. Fight scenes are bland. More Madani and other side characters I couldn't give a shit about - like yeah sure I'm certain this random woman being afraid of heights is something I needed to know for the advancement of the plot. Genuinely feel like this is worse than the first season of Iron Fist at this point.
I got a good laugh from that nigga selling a 1.8ghz laptop for $999
Maybe I am just an outlier but I have really enjoyed this season, Jon Bernthal is still really bringing it as Frank Castle, I have really been enjoying the dynamic between characters this season, Madani is still a drag but Billy, Frank, Curt and Amy are so enjoyable to watch for me. One episode out from the end and I am bummed it's gonna be over already. Ep 8 scene that I really liked: When Amy surprised Frank in the trailer and he went off on her it genuinely frightened me, it was so intense, one of my favorite moments.
Honestly the only thing that fell flat for me was 99% of the stuff with the doctor. Everything else was okay to good.
Man this season really felt pointless. It was off to a promising start then it goes downhill when they get to New York. You could fit the entire arc into like, 3 or 4 episodes. The plot just felt really disjointed and Frank doesn't do enough Punishing. I liked the interaction with the girl and Frank cuz I'm a sucker for that dad / daughter relationship type shit and wish there was more of that. I thought it would have been cool to have Mary from Iron Fist be introduced here but a man can dream. Overall this season really kinda sucked and did nothing but drag on the rivalry between Billy and Frank longer than it needed to be.
No, but he properly needs deodorant.
so objetively, would you watch any of the movies over the netflix series or vieversa?
If the Netflix series were all on Daredevil level, I would prob watch the shows. I love long-term stuff and prefer to spend more time with the characters.
It is shocking how reluctant this Punisher series is to actually be about the Punisher.
They have plenty of good stories to work with without resorting to original stories. Season 3 was structurally so bad that I would rather just have 12 episodic plotlines with no over arching plot like this well known short film https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWpK0wsnitc
Eh, I enjoyed Jon Bernthal Bellows: 2nd Gig. Only thing that bothered me a bit is Russo was still pretty. His face was not fucked up enough. I loved the part at the end, where Russo, laying dying, was gonna say something to Frank but Frank just puts two rounds in his chest and walks off.

Just thought you all could use some laughs, because the "Lego set" that is the crux of the article is.... a motherfucking bootleg. https://twitter.com/nacaomarvelofc/status/1091317343517585409/photo/1 Josh Wilding is the most shameless clickbaiter on the entire web, bar none.

I liked it, but I'm more interested in Coulson and Fury than her
That is not great compositing, but hey, her face like moved and stuff so there's that.
At 0:18 you can hear the unused CS 1.6 death sound.
That probably wasn't the original plan but with GOTG 3 in limbo I'm going to be really surprised if Rocket and Drax both make it out alive.
