Wrinkles, ridges, and lines make things alien. Just ask Star Trek. It's not a new trend, it dates back to the 80s.
Easier to hide hair and less time spent on make-up every day on set
Oh Marvel is making a Power Rangers adaptation too?
silly you. that's piccolo from dragon ball evolution. https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/dragonball/images/4/46/JamesMarstersPiccolo.jpeg/revision/latest?cb=20121115114937

About time he woke up. I still wonder what the official story is about the building the Defenders knocked down. It's kinda funny that in the MCU, it'd be believable to blame it on aliens (at least compared to a ninja death cult digging up dragon bones.)
IF s2 is out
But I don't want to be sad this weekend
I've been spoiling myself on Insomniac's Spider-Man game (because fuck it, I don't have a PS4 and by the time I get one I'll probably have seen the ending posted all over /co/), and I've noticed something I've always wanted but could never really articulate until just now. It always annoys me how movies and video games try to put a "twist" on Spider-Man's lore for the sake of being unique; like how Homecoming made Flash Thompson a more contemporary bully by making him a rich weakling instead of NFL Superpro, or how the new game literally just turns Mary Jane into Lois Lane so we have an excuse to play through some stealth/puzzle sections as her to pad out the length of the main story. Out of every superhero that has ever existed, I feel like Spider-Man has the absolute best supporting cast; unlike someone like Batman, he's a character who's been more or less tonally consistent since the 60's, and trying too hard to modernize that always makes things feel super lame compared to the more comic-booky iconography we're all used to. You've got characters like J. Jonah Jameson, who can play the role of both protagonist AND antagonist; hell, even Aunt May has the capacity to make Peter's life MORE difficult, just because Spidey is one of the few modern superheroes who still keeps his identity secret from his friends and family. Changing these dynamics to "shake things up" always ends up feeling inferior to the source material. It's part of the reason why I feel like the best representations of Spider-Man (at least from a story/atmosphere standpoint) are still the Raimi movies, Spectacular Spider-Man, and the old PS1 game. It didn't feel like "X's take on Spider-Man" or "Spider-Man by Y", it just felt like Spider-Man. All the classic iconography was there, and even if it wasn't 100% consistent with the source material, it still struck the tone really really well. The best Spider-Man moment in the more recent movies IMO is when he shows up for that first fight scene in Infinity War, just because it's the first time in the MCU where we've seen Spider-Man being traditionally Spider-Man without the studio saying "well we just did this with Andrew Garfield so we've gotta subvert their expectations by not doing things Spider-Man does". Normally my stance is "change the source material however you want as long as it turns out really good", but I've yet to see a situation where a Spider-Man adaptation goes out of its way to change something for the source material, only for it to work out even better. Literally the only exception might be the way Spectacular handled Eddie Brock, that's it. tl;dr Goddamn I want some classic-flavor Spider-Man again, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
That was mostly' based on Ultimate Eddie Brock
It was a really solid mix of Ultimate Eddie (Pete's childhood friend who slowly comes to resent him) and Classic Venom (sinister space goo that wants to get freaky with Spider-Man), bringing in the best of both worlds. I love how they explain in all the behind the scenes stuff how their mission statement for each character was to boil them down to their core elements, so you end up with characters who fit perfectly in a contemporary setting while still feeling true to the definitive representations of those characters, even if they originated in the 1960's. It's an approach I'd love to see them take with the movies, to be honest, rather than just "making Mary Jane an actress/model feels dated, let's make her another generic, plucky journalist love interest instead".
So when is my man Turk going to get his own TV show.
Finished Iron Fist 6/10 I personally don't understand why they chose to focus on yet another boring revenge story. The time jump at the end looked like it could have made a great premise for a full season. The Davos stuff could be condensed into 5 or 6 episodes or so, then run the remainder showcasing Danny and Wards adventure through Asia, searching for meaning. I don't know why these shows just skip over interesting stories like that. Instead of showing the same New York streets again, show us something different. Make your show unique compared to the other Marvel shows. Having Danny go through Asia to find his purpose would have been an incredibly interesting second half of the season, and instead of skipping all that and teasing us with his new fists with zero payoff, I assume we will simply be told how they got there and then we will see another generic plot in New York. I really loved Mary Walker and hope to see a lot more. She would go great with the Punisher. Colleen was good when she wasn't moping. The relationship between her and Misty felt a bit forced at times. Davos just felt very bland and I didn't care much for his character or his motivations. I liked Ward and wished to see more from him. Danny always feels a bit dry and monotonous. He was much better on Luke Cage and at the last minute of the finale. They have interesting content squeezed in the cracks, they just need to dump these boring plots.
Ward has been in the best character in Iron Fist I want more Ward and Dany bromance
Danny and the Incredibly Difficult Privilege Vol 2 (2018) Welp the good news is there is a hell of lot less whining about things that do not drive the plot or characters foward, the bad news is it's still not completely eliminated. The good news the fight choreography is much better, the bad news is still ... off and wildy all over the place, up to including showing giant whiffs in full camera focus. The FX are also butt terrible, the first season of babylon 5 had better rotoscoping and color matching and that shit was done on an Amiga. Seriously, the fx are ass. Luckily for the most part the writing carries this shit forward pretty well. There's still some hand wringing and contrived drama simply for its own sake, but much much MUCH less than last time. It's still not even though, Davos in particular is a waste of an actor, he has some good shit in there but only two of the writers seem to get him in a way that doesn't scream generic abused/abuser that doesn't even hit the bullet points of "is a villain", much less surpass or subvert them. Bad guy, control freak, meh. The B and C drives of this vehicle thankfully are as good as anything put up for Marvel so far yet. Ward and Joy fucking carry their shit out of the park frankly, and frame their decisions with gravitas and fucking performance art. Typhoid Mary is a goddamn machine and if Netflix fails to use her for Punisher or Daredevil they will have failed the fans frankly, she's the best version submitted for public consumption ever , and so far beyond her comic origin as to be a completely different character, a much better one. Misty filling in for Claire mostly works, but it still feels forced in couple of instances. 6.5/10 mostly for the b and c arcs and the final half of the final episode, maybe they've figured what IF is actually about.
Davos isn't just a "bad guy, control freak" like you think. He's supposed to be a good guy turned bad by his experiences and the temptation of true power. Since Davos was his friend, Danny would obviously not want to kill him which allowed the writers to focus on something other than the whole "what kind of iron fist do you want to be" thing that Danny dealt with in season 1. Also, he acted as a vessel for the creators to really show off what the iron fist can do without the restrictions of Danny's morality. I remember people criticizing the first season because it didn't show off the fist nearly enough and Netflix/Marvel gave the people what they asked for via Davos. Also, what do you mean Misty filled in for Claire? Misty needed to be in IF S2 because they wanted to set up the Daughters of the Dragon duo. Hence Misty's line in Episode 10 when she said to Colleen something about how Night and Wing sound good together. Maybe I'm misunderstanding your point on that one. My guess: they had that time leap at the end because of the lukewarm reception of the first season. Netflix probably didn't give them a big enough budget to do 13 episodes like they did with Luke Cage and others. Really looking forward to the reveal of Orson Randall and Danny starting to adopt his use of gun fu
Davos's "good guy" run lasts exactly half an episode, and directly contradicted by his father's own words before he ever even gets to New York, much less anything going on in season one. He quite literally commands Danny to surrender after his mom gives him the business stare, he kills Ryhno without even demonstrating how his point of view is better or posing up tot he group as to why his methods are what's needed. As for Misty, she was quite literally a fill in for Claire after Dawson quit, her role was only supposed to cover the last two episodes and setting up Wing for her DD development down the line with dialog. All the investigation and procedural shit was not intended for her character.
word on the street is that the captain marvel trailer drops tomorrow morning on Good Morning America
Huh, I was looking through the credits of Homecoming and never realized that one of Peter's classmates was just straight up Silk
Homecoming had a lot of that thing that I kinda hate, where they just slapped the names of established characters onto literally who extras in order to score "epic reference" cred with the audience. Like, there's no reason that Ned shouldn't have been Ganke, except that Ganke is probably too ethnic a name for Disney's tastes. So now fuck it, there's an entire major Hobgoblin storyline thrown out the window because Pete's best friend (who can't be Harry or Gwen for some reason) has to have a recognizable name. It's like how they made Betty Brandt one of the school news anchors (which is clever), but cast someone who looks identical to 616 Gwen Stacy. Like, if you're not gonna do anything with the character, why bother introducing them at all? It'd be like if they took some random extra in Captain Marvel and credited him as "Ben Parker", like, okay? So? That doesn't actually add anything. Namedrops are not worldbuilding.

The first trailer and poster have done nothing for me. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/129/81118edf-6c9a-45bf-a034-59d968fe1da6/1537275626551[1].jpg
Nothing really stands out in this trailer, hopefully i'll be proven wrong
I dunno. I think it looks interesting, but it’s definitely looking looking a little more reserved than the standard MCU movie, almost like a Phase 1 film.
Could be the whole movie is a bit of a spoiler.
Coulson~
Given that Skrulls can mimic the appearance of anyone, I'm sure there are going to be surprises.
I'm kinda getting this vibe from all the recent non-Infinity War movies like the studio knows we're gonna go see it, like it's just a victory lap after making a modern-day Empire Strikes Back. Like it might as well just be filler until Thanos shows up again, but "you're gonna go buy that ticket because maybe there'll be a teaser after the credits or something, ooooooooh!" I have zero interest in Carol Danvers as a character, never read any of the comics, but I'm gonna go see this (even though it doesn't really look that interesting) because I know it's mandatory viewing for Avengers 4.
Honestly that was the sole reason I was going to go see the film. Other than keeping the fact that I've seen every single Marvel film in theater and I don't want to stop at this point.
