Saw Fate/Stay Night: Heaven's Feel I. I think it's good, but I still hold Unlimited Blade Works in high regard. I hope part II is really good.
The lack of Saber in action and the absence of Rin in some key moments feel a bit off, but I'm trying to remind myself that it's a different route so there will be changes.
Part 2 is more or less an interlude for Shirou to reconfirm his ideals, explain some backstory, and prepare for the final showdown. There's not much happening to be honest.
hi, am japanese, can confirm we are all anime, we look like anime, and we sound like anime, ask me anything
Okay, jokes aside, there is the whole "die in game die irl" thing, right? I heard several people saying that .hack is the OG, but I can name an older one.
Seriously though, if you weebs want to know anything about the anime culture here, please ask. I would rather not leave you people with misconceptions.
And no, I do NOT like SAO, moreso after I turned on the TV at midnight the other day and it happened to be the fucking rape scene. I cannot fucking believe I binge watched SAO and SAO2 and then watched Ordinal Scale when it was in theaters.
How do older generations view the large influx of anime culture?
This is that moment where you remember that .hack//Sign started airing 16 days before that Conan movie... making it older than that movie.
Good question. This is just from personal experience and from what I have heard from others, but they do not seem to really care and are mostly accepting of it. As a specific example, usually when I mention something about recent anime, my grandmother is like "okay" and that is it. She does seem to know something about older anime along the lines of older Ghibli movies though. I remember watching the likes of Totoro on her TV when I was smaller, and if I remember correctly she even encouraged me to watch TV anime as it aired, like Doraemon and Crayon Shin-chan. I am pretty sure she would be disgusted by the nastier side of anime though, but TBH I am too.
If you mean the extreme side of otaku culture though... My grandmother has told me "don't become like that". Indeed, I would rather not become like that.
The memories. The first thing that I downloaded when I first came across torrents well over a decade ago. It took me 3 days leaching over someone else's wifi. (Different times)
And when it was completed it had hardcoded Spanish subs D:
Something I always wondered about. What is your opinion on having cute mascots for almost everything? And what do people in general think about that?
I don't mind cute stuff, but there surely must be something like a kawaii-overload at some point?
i hadnt seen my little cousins (10, 12) in over 3 years, and today ive met with them. they're the cutest. i was showing one of them surviv.io on the computer when she said, "look at that guy with the rainbow uniform! it's so kawaii desu!". i looked at her dumbfounded and said "where did you learn that from?"
"i watch anime, duh!"
i've never been prouder in my life. turns out she and her sister watch a lot of anime. we went on myanimelist and she showed me which ones they watched and i recommended some. the future is very bright :')
Wow, a Kuutei Dragons adaptation got announced! I always wanted an anime for it!

I TAKE IT BACK ABORT ABORT
Thought of a couple more if you don't mind.
The traditional houses we see in Anime, with the straw mats and sliding doors seem to make up a high majority of buildings we see in the shows but how much has Western/European architecture influenced japan?
how do the Japanese people that live outside of the major cities feel about the worldwide attention their smaller towns and cities get when they are shown in Anime/manga. Do you imagine they have a sense of pride in it?
What about traditions and culture?
Many western countries associate (or did associate in the past) Japan with high quality cheap consumer electronics
Is there anything the Japanese associate other countries with?
Only tangentially related and sort of a selfish inquiry here.
I'm moving to Tokyo next month and wondering if you know of any good places to pick up reading material. I've heard Akiba is a trap where everything is overpriced but I'll be only 10 minutes out by train so it's convenient.
Saw Heaven's Feel II. Holy SHIT that was bonkers.
I think this one was better than the last one, and yeah some scenes stuck to my head. I know Sakura is kind of unpopular among fan,s but this film really hits home about the Matou Family drama and what happened to her that made her a Master. The reveal of the Shadow is great, and really amps up the horror of how dangerous this "thing" is and what Shirou needs to do to stop it from destroying this town and possibly the world. I think the film here really adds to her dilemma moreso than Rin IMHO. The fight between Bersereker and Dark Saber is a thing of beauty and any Fate fan needs to see it . Illya's cute, Rin's pout-y, and GARCHER is GARCHER.The only gripe is that the scenes with Dark Saber felt short, and it seemed like she was supposed to have more scenes but were cut to add more Matou scenes. Dark Saber also kind of reminds me of Transformers: The Last Knight for some reason because of the "Nemesis Prime" scenes. Only in Heaven's Feel II It really gives the added weight to Sabers new alignment, her total disregard to Shirou, and how strong she is while giving the story a needed challenge where Prime just needed to be banged up a bit and he's good again while serving no plot relevance.
The scenes with Sakura and Shirou getting lovey-dovey got a bit awkward and funny at some points like the "Virgin" and the "sucking blood" scenes on how either clunky the dialogue was or how really fanservice-y they got. It was a still a cute romance that sadly is probably going to get cut short thanks to The Shadow. Illya should have gotten more scenes given how much "BASAKA!" had a spotlight stealing scene.
Oh and Shinji still caring on the tradition of Shinji being synonymous with "bitch". That attempted rape scene was actually terrifying, with his swift death being the ultimate catharsis I have ever witnessed in a anime movie. Fuck Shinji in any route, family drama or no. Poor friend got traumatized by this moment.
I give this one an A-, but a C+ for the theater experience because of the full theater being loud and obnoxious with my friend making commentary on some of the above spoilers.
Bring on the finale!
PS; anyone got a link to the actual Fate/Stay Nigth VN? I think it may be high time I actually dive into the real deal.
wanna get a beer next time in in japan?
Could you please be more specific about what "mascots" you mean?
Actually, they only make up a high majority of buildings in the countryside. A lot of homes in suburban and urban areas have another modern style, but if you are willing to spend lots of money, it is still possible to build a traditional style house today.
I have seen some houses with some foreign influence, such as having high ceilings, big living rooms, and imported materials like sinks and garage doors from America, but there are not many of those and even then they are definitely smaller than most American houses. I have also seen some with old European influence, but there are even less of those. Basically, anything other than the typical modern style is expensive.
I am not sure about the "worldwide" attention because I have not really heard about foreigners going to locations from anime and manga. However, there have been plenty of examples of attention from within the country. One is that people and organizations in Yamanashi seem to be proud to have Yurukyan (Laid-Back Camp in English, I think) set in the area and they make it a selling point for tourism. Another example I have seen myself is Numazu in Shizuoka, which has seemed to gather attention because of, uh, Love Live. Indeed there were things like character cardboard cutouts and a dedicated goods shop (and very otaku-looking people) when I stopped by Surugawan-Numazu on the Shin-Tomei Expressway.
Could you be more specific about "traditions and culture" please?
Not sure about "high quality cheap consumer electronics" nowadays. If they are cheap, chances are they are actually not made in Japan despite having a Japanese brand on it. Definitely high quality though.
And yes, lots of things Japanese associate with other countries. Like this

Any large bookstore will do. Hit me up on Discord and I can help you with finding a particular location.
Check nyaa or its sister domain depending on if you want sfw or not. Kind of bummed that I missed the opportunity to watch in here in Copenhagen, now I have to wait for the bluray again...
Sorry, I meant how do you feel about old traditions and culture being shown.
(again this knowledge comes from anime) but like shrine visits with bell ringing, festivals, putting those little wishes on trees, that sort of thing?
What are some well regarded anime in Japan that are different from what European/Americans usually agree are the "top 10 animes" to watch? This is subjective of course, but generally there is a group of anime's people always mention, such as: Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Gundam, JoJo's, Code Geass, Full Metal Alchemist, Dragonball, etc.
Is that any different over there?
i kinda hate that now that i've read so much of the manga, domestic na kanojo is pretty much unwatchable.
the pacing, the stuff left out, the vastly inferior artstyle
if my walk around akihabara 2 weeks ago was indicative, this season's biggest shows in Japan seem to be 5toubun, wataten, and kaguya-sama
Speaking of Yuru Camp, someone on Reddit actually did a two-parted write-up of them visiting the locations in the show. It's a fun read!
Got any good examples of stereotypes associated with lesser-spoken-of countries, like the non-Russian Slavic countries (Czech Republic, Serbia, Bulgaria, etc)?
https://twitter.com/pkjd818/status/1106914726678675457
Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Things like cute characters on traffic signs, advertisements, packaging, vehicles, and of course the numerous mascots representing things like prefectures, locally produced goods, companies, services and certain products. Here in the west using cute things to aim at adults is lot less common, yet in Japan it seems like its completely normal and even used by big companies and government agencies.
So I was wondering what your view on that is and how the view of the average Japanese person is?
Do you like or hate it? Do you just stop noticing it? Is it annoying/patronizing? Should it be turned down, or turned more up?
"Hachiman?" said Totsuka...
Yet again questioning my masculinity...
Oregairu would be a better series if Hachiman dropped those thots and went out with Saika instead
This is why I tell people, anime turns you gay.
From the latest Kaguya-sama.

What kind of sick twisted person eats their pizza crust-first?
what about the sick fuck who didn't even have a slice
A true pizza connoisseur, already ate theirs.
There's 4 people there, but only 3 slices of pizza are missing from the tray, meaning someone hasn't taken a slice.
Using perspective analysis and Google-provided deep imaging techniques, I've estimated the opposite!
https://i.imgur.com/f9PCaG1.jpg
There are actually five slices missing from this pizza at the minimum. The only logical conclusion is that the fourth member ate slices 4 and 5, but made them small to really savor the perfected trianguloid shape.
My point remains, a true pizza connoisseur!
I didn't realize they were eating pizza at Chuck-E-Cheese's.
