Having a flashback here but has anyone seen Ookiku Furikabutte (Big Windup)?
I saw Ace of the Diamond got a renewal, and it made me remember how much better Big Windup was...
Neptunia fans, rejoice. The new OVA starring adult Neptune is coming.

lol sister really cleaned up huh
Heads up, the Hoshiiro Girldrop OVA is out!
Mob Psycho 100, such an amazing series in the hands of a studio that is full of passion for it. I would say, easily, it's among the highlight of this decade. Single-handedly renewed my love for this medium.
New Dororo OP
https://youtu.be/QZyK3uYq-qQ
I guess that thirty second long pan of gory Hyakkimaru at the start is there because the OP director realised the rest is a really bland shounen OP.
wtf and the first season was so stylish
rest of kaiji would be like 6 cours, and it's still ongoing. So not in the foreseeable future. Akagi anime is 1/3 of the manga, and the last arc continues all the rest of the story. It'd be crazy to do a sequel on that drawn out stuff i think.
I think the ending to the Akagi anime is pretty good actually. By dragging washizu into the last games you realize that he will never give up and lose everything.
mob psycho 100 season 2 was amazing.
god i hope they make a season 3 and adapt the remaining volumes.
that's odd, i could've sworn there was a couple arcs between the bog and the current arc, so it'd take them a couple seasons to get to the best arc
hot take but i was pretty disappointed with the last couple of episodes of mob s2
the season started off better than s1 (which was already amazing) and kept getting better and better but the last couple of episodes just felt like a standard shonen finale to me
an incredibly well animated shonen finale, but i expected there to be more substance there since mob's writing is mostly pretty good
I think the group fight against Shimazaki was 10x better than the boss battle at the end.
the fight against touchy ho was just one of many things that was better in the manga. they really rushed a LOT of stuff for the anime, which was particularly blatant with the section in mogami's world being robbed of all emotional impact. i'd really recommend reading the manga
that's a factor, but there's more to the last few episodes that make it feel a lot like a standard shounen
the most obvious being the constant speeches mob holds in the last 2 episodes about his values, ideals and friendship that you've heard already if you've watched other shounen
also it doesn't help that so many of mob's encounters, especially towards the end, mostly just serve the purpose of showing how insanely powerful he is rather than actually having tension or drama
hell, even after everyone's fight against shimazaki that mob wasn't a part of, the encounter has to end with mob coming in to scare him off for good because of how insanely powerful he is
i'm not saying that kind of writing's bad, it certainly has its audience, but i expected mob to be smarter, more inspired and more creative than that
the group fight against shimazaki was fantastic because it had actual weight, tension and drama to it and it was really creatively coreographed and animated
i think mob as a character is at his best when he's struggling to improve himself outside of esper stuff, it was really satisfying to see him improve bit by bit overtime as a person and seeing how his relationships grow
i found the marathon to be much more emotionally engaging and involving than the entirety of mob's part of the finale
Ngl, at its most intense and visually stunning I was literally incapable of keeping up with Mob. Like it was rapid fire sensory overload to the point where I feel like I couldn't process it as it was happening. Almost feel like E5 and E13 could have been paced a little better with OP removals and maybe one extra episode but I really have little to complain about.
Definitely a show I feel I'm going to have to rewatch to truly get 100% (lol) out of
Holy fuck OPM 106 is great and I can't wait for the pure absurdity of the MA saga to arrive. I loved Darkshine versus Bug God. I can't wait for Rover to be a smol good boi. Nyan has been a great addition to the manga. I can't wait to see Tatsumaki rip the base out. It's a really good time to start the manga regardless of how season 2 turns out. One and Murata just plain knock it out of the ball park with each chapter. One's changes from webcomic to manga have been so much fun. Murata does great work in expressing the grandeur of each character and their abilities. It's failed to disappoint me frankly.
i've been really trying to watch nisemonogatari, but it's just so uninteresting.
i thought bake was interesting enough and there was enough stuff happening for me to be interested, but in nise it's more araragi being a creepy annoying pedo and there's just so much talking and talking and talking and taaaaaaaaaalking and UGHHHHH i can't stand it. a few of the episodes that i have seen are 90% composed of people just talking and nothing going on. they go on awfully long tangents and it's just reeeeeeeeeeeally not interesting to me.
there are also the loli creep shots including the mayuri va girl, hachikuji, and shinobu that just really turns me off even more. the only arc that i actually cared about was the kaiki arc because oh my god kaiki is such a cool dude. he reminds me of the steins;gate 0 okabe except sadder and with those forehead spikes and has the va of takumi fujiwara. i guess i'll drop nisemono then.
i finished watching neverland today with the father and it was pretty great, 8/10. the only bone i have to pick with is phil. my father and i agreed with the idea that phil would likely be too young to understand the situation with such ease and speak so coherently (at least in that scene where he was talking with emma in the finale). you can make the argument that he's just another child prodigy, but then you'd have four child prodigies and so that'd be unlikely and seem kind of like an asspull.
New trailer from the upcoming movie Promare by Studio Trigger.
I'm sold.

Kamina starts a Fire Department: The Movie?
I've been getting this movie mixed up with Fire Force and was wondering why the art style changed completely.
Yeah I felt the same exact way as you. The whole occult aspect was interesting, and so was the visual style but the show just devolves into borderline hentai bait which doesn't contribute anything. If the sexuality has an impact on the plot or characters sure, but the scenes screamed fan service to me especially with EVERY female character having shots like that. If I want to go jerk off, I'll go on pornhub.
while most of the time gratuitous fan service is just annoying to me, it fits really well with monogatari
the show has a character of its own with its odd presentation and dialogue and it would feel like there's something missing if the pseudo-philosophical ramblings weren't contrasted by low-brow panty shots
I feel like another series that suffers from that whiplash is Highschool DxD. I distinctly remember in the last season Isse having a pretty compelling internal conflict about something and at one point he talks to Akeno about it and the scene is 100% serious and GOOD, but for whatever reason her tits are out the entire time. It's like please ma'am put those away for a fucking second, we're trying to do a thing here.
I never felt like Monogatari's fanservice was all that fanservice:y? Didn't have that typical feel for me. At least not to the extent that it felt discomforting or detrimental to the show's overall quality. Maybe stuff like the bath scene in Nise carries some initial shock value, but I just ended up kind of appreciating how somehow casual it was. And yeah, like Hakita said it just kinda fits in. There's a pretty nice reddit post talking about all that jazz;

Netflix Ultraman seems to be a similar case to Planet With in that it goes hard on the frame chopping in the early episodes, then at some point somebody in charge realises how atrocious it looks and progressively cuts down on it until it's almost completely gone by the end.
Unfortunately they didn't realise this from the start because the first fight in the series is pretty much impossible to follow when it's running at like six frames per second.
