I thought y'all were joking. Holy shit this is actually terrible. Even something as simple as talking looks bad.
why on earth would anyone ever hire that guy again after that TTGL episode?? didn't he make fake forum accounts to defend the animation in that ep after it aired, too?
Again according to /a/, apparently the backlash for TTGL's 4th episode was so severe that one of the heads of Gainax stepped down because of it, to take the blame I guess. Yet the dude actually responsible still gets work, go figure. I cannot fathom why they would sign this guy on even as a joke, given the consequences the TTGL episode had.
The backlash was severe because the guy was going full defense force for his work which of course fanned the flames bigger not because its just bad. They decided to give him that episode because they wanted him to do it that way so in the end its a entire misstep of the people directing the entire thing not just the dude.
I think I just had the most awkward time of my life watching Sarazanmai with my bros. Sure the designs are actually kind of cute but what. the. actual. flying. fucktard was happening and why was it anal beads.
So after seeing that little easter egg added for Knockout Lite, I decided to check out Serial Experiments Lain. I'm almost done with the series but wow, I've been completely enthralled by the show, even if I don't understand everything just yet. Paprika was my first real intro to anime and since the two have a lot of the same themes in common, so I guess watching Lain makes me feel especially nostalgic.
real knockout has it too and it's even better
I don't seem to understand.

Angel Beats is the fastest I've ever gone from "my sides" to "my feelings". What happened to this thread though, is this season that bad?
yes
I literally forgot there is a season.
Alright, then let me ask for an anime suggestion. I'd like something dark. Something serious. Horror maybe, or some really thrilling shit. No recurring funny or epic stuff. Something like Death Parade or the darker seasons of Monogatari, for instance. Anyone has a good suggestion?
berserk and devilman crybaby are the obvious answers i'd also say made in abyss but that's more of a balance of grimdark and happy stuff
Made in Abyss is really dark - it's like journey to the center of the earth except the protagonists are children and everything in the deeper layers wants to murder the shit out of you. Pretty gruesome at times, but very well done. Shin Sekai Yori - one of my all-time favorites. Civilization of psychics in a traditional Japanese setting and the effects that having those powers has on that society. Can't really tell you more without spoiling, but it gets quite dark once you start realizing what's happening. A little bit of a slow burn, but quite worth it.
Already seen Berserk and it was right up my alley (and made a fool of myself in this thread), but Devilman looks great, I'll grab it. Thanks!
girls last tour is dark in its own way
Its an existential kind of thing though. And its filled with adorable and cute moments that don't contribute to a dark tone so much.
Angel's Egg — This anime is what happens when a seminary student cum master animator decides God doesn't exist. This is darkness defined by Nietzsche, but it isn't edgy. Shinsekai Yori — Lobotomies, child murder, societal repression through Brave New World-esque methods, you name it. Serial Experiments Lain — Not a lick of humor, fanservice, or "epic" to be found. Cold and serious through and through. Paranoia Agent — It's wild, but its darkest points are pretty damn dark. Planetes — Not dark in a traditional sense, but it is very solemn about its main themes. Jin-Roh — Cold and gritty cop drama from the lens of the bad guys. The story was premised upon violent political tensions in Japan during the post-war era.
Monster, for sure one of my top 10 animes to boot. Berserk, Ergo Proxy, 3-gatsu no lion (It's not dark in a conventional sense, it's a mental struggle for the MC coming out of a dark place).
When it's really obvious how many good one-cours shows would clearly have rather had two cours but had to compromise and end up cramped as a result, I'm really bitter over the fact that Fairy Gone of all shows gets 24 episodes. That show is just bad from top to bottom and is total wasted potential.
Not to mention we were really spoiled with the Winter season. So many great series in that period.
I dunno, Kimetsu no Yaiba has been pretty good this season. Not the most unique story in the world, but the animation and visuals are pretty nice, and it has good pacing. Pretty enjoyable. Other than that though it's been a pretty dry season.
still not over the disappointment with OPM2
What are you talking about? The writing is funny, and that's all I expect from OPM. The animation in season 1 was good but it didn't blow me away like BnHA did, and season 2's animation isn't that noticeably worse.
Season 2's animation is noticeably worse, are you blind? It's not BAD but it's not season 1 by a fucking mile.
Well if you want dark with more dark and never any light I'd argue there are no good shows but if it can be a healthy mix then Boku dake ga Inai Machi is a really good show that doesn't drag it feet too much @ 12 episodes
How far is OPM S2 planning to adapt to? Because unless it'll get to the end of Monster Association arc, then I don't see the point. I don't feel like OPM's writing is quite good enough to prop up the series without the spectacle, unlike Mob Psycho 100.
I think OPM S2's flaws are way more noticeable because of how good S1 looked. If S1 was simply ok-tier, it would be way less jarring IMO. Garou is still the best tho.
