If I hated 803 to the extent it almost ruined the whole show for me, should I spoil the rest of the series just to rip the band-aid off?
I had to go to Montreal today and I just discovered that HBOgo doesn't work in Canada. So that's fun.
For what it's worth, if reactions from people who read the leaks are that visceral, it sounds like you aren't missing much. Unless, of course, you're one to enjoy watching live train wrecks out of morbid curiosity.
It's hard to say, I kinda wish I didn't seem them Tuesday, but after episode 4 it's gonna be pretty clear where the plot is going.
Here we go. Good luck and God speed
This is fucking depressing...
The idea of Humanity uniting and fighting a greater threat, casting away their petty squabbles, just to completely squander and throw away that idea. For a half-ass "Subvert expectations" ending for this show.
Virgin Brienne vs Chad Podrick
I honestly not finding anything wrong with the season so far, other than episode 3 being impossible to see.
I can find plenty of issues but it's honestly baffling how many people are acting like GoT going down the shitter is something new. We've had shit writing ever since we overtook the books but people are acting as if they expected that issue to be magically resolved just because we hit the final season...
Oh god did you accurately predict next episode?
Holy shit
RIP
sounds pretty on par for humanity to me, see: our environment and the threat of global warming. call me a cynic.
anyway, i liked the ep. it's nice to see the show somewhat swing back into its wheelhouse of political intrigue, at least a little.
This season has mostly been ass.
I hope it comes together, but it's really not looking good.
Was an alright episode, but I'm not liking where they're taking most of the characters. Too many abrupt changes in too short a time for me to feel it's earned.
We'll see, but I'm lowering my hopes for a satisfactory ending.
I'm not sure how to feel about it tbh, the scorpions destroying the fleet was just stupid and Cersei could of just killed Dany and be done with it.
Jon and Dany being pitted as rivals is tragic and heartbreaking, but it was the drama I've come to enjoy from before. They really should have kept Rhaegal around for the dance.
thoughts about jaime at the end? was he a bit of a cunt to Brienne so she didn't follow and he's actually going to kill Cersei?
RIP Rhaegal
Man, first Jorah, then Rhaegal, now Missandei. Anyone who thinks Daenerys doesn't have cause to go 'burn them all' now is delusional. Remember what she did when she saw a bunch of children she didn't know crucified? These three are the ones she loved most. And the last one all but spelled out her support to bring fire and blood.
"Dracarys" was a hell of a last word.
Pet the fucking dog Jon
Which of your expectations are being so subverted?
The episode was jarring as fuck, the pacing was unnatural. Low expectations for the finale now. Had some hope for the season turning around after ep3 but doubtful as ever now.
Well I guess we're just supposed to believe Arya just ran past the white walkers and all their zombies, since they decided not to elaborate how she got past them. Great. Wonderful. Makes total sense, totally not an asspull.
Also I guess they got tired of forgetting about Ghost, so now he's banished to the north forever. No more CGI budget allocated for you.
I thought after the last episode that we might actually, finally, see everybody get on the same page and work together to end the war over the throne.
But no, after coming together to defeat a common foe, everybody needs to go back to being at each-other's throats, and we need to up Dany's crazy to drive a stake between her and Jon.
It's so damn late in the series to be making these moves, and the pacing is really suffering for it.
I see a lot of people complaining about pacing, what about the pacing is putting you off? I didn't sense an issue, but I want to know where that argument is coming from.
I don't feel like she went schizophrenic during the feast; the vibe I got was that she felt extremely unappreciated by everyone there which was unfortunately bolstered by her fears of losing the throne to Jon.
Anyways, now that I've had some time to stew on this episode on the drive home, my thoughts:
I loved the cremation scene. Fine acting and emotion on display, with a damn good speech by Jon.
The feast afterwards was also quite lovely, and I appreciated how much of an effort Daenerys was making to curry the Northman's favor (making Gendry a lord, and toasting to Arya). The drinking game was also fun, but having Brienne be a virgin as the thing to 'break' the game felt weirdly juvenile. Can't this woman be happy for five fucking minutes?
Conversation between Dany and Jon in his chambers was quite good and hit the important story beats. Both made good points, with Jon wanting to do the honorable thing and tell his family and Daenerys knowing full well that will spiral out of control (lo and behold, she was right).
They only lost half of their forces? Nowhere near the level of devastation the last episode portrayed.
Of COURSE Jon can't keep his honorable mouth shut and tells Sansa & Arya. And he was foolish enough to think that Sansa would keep it to herself. SIGH.
Speaking of Sansa, they're really making her lay it on thick with her distrust of Dany. They have every reason to be wary of outsiders, especially when that outsider might force them to kneel, but the woman sacrifices half her fighting force and one of her children AND is in love with your brother. Give her some credit, would you?
Fuck Euron. Rhaegal deserved better.
I really hope this thing with Jamie is an actual subversion. If they play it straight and throw away 7 seasons of character building just to make him run back to Cersei AGAIN, I'll be furious.
How did Bronn get into Winterfell and into a room with the Hand of the Queen and Jamie Lannister while carrying that big fuckoff crossbow? Minor quibble, but this whole subplot of his sure feels like unnecessary drama anyway.
Poor Missandei. She was a fine choice for a shocking death but the girl was so innocent. Badass last words though.
Finally, it really does look like Dany is going full 'Mad Queen' in the upcoming episodes, however I note that unlike her father who was dangerously paranoid and cruel...the writers are really giving Dany every justification in the book to just fucking unleash on King's Landing. She lost half her army, two of her children, both of her best friends, and soon enough she'll lose trust in the man she loves. And this is all in THIS SEASON. They've written it in such a way that she's not going "Mad" as in "Insane," but rather that she's just straight pissed off. She could burn down the Red Keep and kill a few hundred innocents next episode and there'd honestly be a part of me going "They don't deserve it...but I fully understand why this is happening." If Jon has to end up killing her...man this isn't going to be a bittersweet ending, it's going to be absolutely tragic. I'll have a hard time going back to watch the show again.
We'll see. Two episodes left so there's not much room for random plot twists now.
Fuck it, I read the rest of the season's leaks after seeing this episode. I'm genuinely speechless.
Guys be careful about discussing the leaks without explicitly specified spoiler tags. I still want to watch the rest of this unspoiled.
