I kinda understand Dany's perspective though. In her eyes, these people are responsible for everything bad that's happened to her lately. These people tried to have her assassinated in the first few seasons. The people in slavers bay were slaves, they had no choice before being freed and they loved Dany. But the people of King's Landing were living well and they were free. She wasn't willing to forgive them this easily for everything they've done. These people were exactly what's wrong with Westeros in her eyes. She has always been about breaking the wheel and starting anew. The scorpions being mostly useless also makes some sense. The only times they were any use was when they surprised the dragons. Rhaegal never saw it coming and got hit by multiple bolts at once. Drogon is seen evading them easily, I don't think they're quite the railguns they were made out to be.
they needed more time to develop the plotlines, bottom line even then though im not sure if they'd still necessarily pull it off not having the books to rip scenes and dialogue from, but i do think everything could feel a lot more justified if the season was longer. it's just sad that it feels so slapdash now.

I truly don't understand how you can have it both ways. It was never depicted properly (is not) but is a "natural continuation of her path" (is). That is the essence of contradiction. Besides, all the fucking characters in this show have dark sides.
i just wish the long night was its own season and we could have done this whole kings landing business in another season, there's too much to cover in a mere 7 episodes no matter what their runtimes are and the quality is suffering for it, if dany seen most of her comrades ripped apart by the dead it'd make a hell of a lot more sense for her to just randomly snap
I'm not the only one who feels this way, so directing this at me like I'm just factually wrong is kind of silly IMO. There was tons of instances of her cruelty being put on display, we always agreed with it because she justified it. This wasn't justified, and I'm not trying to say it was. What, I'm supposed to believe that her losing her dragon, her best friend, and her lover all in the span of a few hours would really mean nothing to her character development? Okay.
Well I think it made sense for the character, but I think it was rushed. So there’s no contradiction. this season hasn’t been the best season but I’ve still enjoyed it, especially while watching it. It’s a shame it ended on low note but I still think the emotional moments and core of the show still get me in this last season. I got emotional during episode 2, feeling the looming darkness coming. I felt genuine anxiety, despair, and tension during the long night. I felt Danys anger, and the intensity of the destruction of episode 5. Its definitely not as well written as previous season but it’s still enjoyable.
I mean, the pacing is so breakneck now that this is basically what we've got: Episode 1-70: The White Walkers/Night King are our greatest enemy! Episode 60-72: Cersei is our greatest enemy! Episode 72-73: Daenerys is our greatest enemy! That's. Fucking. Ridiculous. Mad Queen Daenerys could (and should have been) an entire season on its own.
I got reminded of Metal Gear Rising when Cleganebowl happened. So I basically went in and made a video about it. Ep5 spoilers obviously. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-g3AEhvVNA
Man, more and more leaks from reasonably trustworthy people have been coming out the last couple of days. If what they say comes to pass, I will have little qualms in saying that this may very well be the worst ending to any TV series in decades. Worse than Dexter, worse than Lost...you have to TRY to screw it up this badly.
I feel like since leak stuff was on point the last couple episodes is pretty unlikely that there aren't accurate leaks about sunday's episode either.
I don't know why HBO let them do this tbh, they should have let D&D go and had others like Cogman write a 7,8 and potentially a 9th season. D&D wanted out and basically tanked the entire series, and it hurts the franchises future. Who wants to watch a prequel series with the WW knowing how dumb they are?
I don't wish failure on any of the prequel series simply because I know they shouldn't be punished for the main series falling apart, but part of me does genuinely hope HBO loses a ton of subscriptions and money from residuals after this mess. It sucks, and I understand that it will potentially hurt some people's earnings that don't deserve it, but what the showrunners have done here is unacceptable. I really hope Disney takes Star Wars away from D&D. Tanking something this important, intentionally or not, should not be rewarded with another big franchise.
i mean there are still numerous opening to salvage the WW both tonally and lore-wise in a prequel. and DnD have been replaced by the lady who wrote Kick-Ass, X-Men Days of Future Past, and all the Kingsman movies so that sounds like an improvement i guess
they did it BECAUSE they got Star Wars it's probably too contractually sealed by now to go back on it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mlNyqhnc1M A video I'd like to share to contibute to the big Daenerys debate going on in this thread
So what's in the leaks for next week other than fucking BRAN turning out to take the throne?
IIRC Jon kills Daenerys, takes the black as the 1000th lord commander, even though I have no idea what the night's watch is supposed to defend against at this point, Sam proposes they create a democracy and gets laughed at, Tyrion sees yet another trial.
Sounds like monday's gonna be even more of a hoot than this week if even half of that turns out true.
also sansa rules the north and arya fucks off into spinoff land like tormund
The final episode will feature the commonfolk of Westeros deciding that, after all that's been said and done, monarchy really isn't so damn awesome as they were initially led to believe, so they'll lynch both Jon and Daenerys and install a democracy or, at the very least, a constitutional/elective monarchy
I want GoT to end in someway similar to St. Elsewhere. The fallout from that would be amazing.

The fact gunpowder hasn't been invented yet in Westeros is odd. We can make Wildfire but not a boom boom powder?
Wildfire is meant to be based on Greek Fire, which if memory serves, was around long before gunpowder, so it's not that strange.
Doesn't the Night's Watch use explosive powder barrels against the wildlings on the winding staircase in castle black? I can't remember if that's book-only. The attack on the wall came in two parts, and it would be the first one where they cut down the wildlings who looped around from the south.
What J Hat mentioned and a combination of Dragons stifling military technological growth, and the maesters consolidating knowledge amongst themselves are the main things limiting technological growth in ASOIAF. For all we know gunpowder may have been discovered and explored by the maesters, only to be made a 'restricted' research. Maesters are known to be restrictive on topics they find too taboo or dangerous, and it's interesting that the Westerosi have a rather advanced understanding of medical knowledge, understanding the need for gloves and what germs are (even knowing what sperm is), yet things like opening a body for surgery is seen as taboo. That or there could be a dozen environmental reasons why gunpowder hasn't been discovered. Poor metallurgy, lack of material access, etc. Maybe the long ass winters make storage and use of gunpowder-like materials unfeasible. Who knows. Maybe the ASOIAF stand-in for China has already discovered it, I don't know.
It's sad too because earlier in the series they got this right.
I bet the empire of Yi Ti has gunpowder
